Job summary

Kinect seeks a Network Engineer to design, implement, and secure our enterprise network, cloud, and virtual infrastructure. You will lead hands-on efforts across Cisco networking, Fortinet FortiGate security, Microsoft Hyper‑V virtualization, and Azure cloud, while mentoring staff and ensuring high availability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Job description

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization’s network, cloud, and virtual infrastructure. This role provides hands‑on technical leadership across Cisco networking, Fortinet FortiGate security, Microsoft Hyper‑V virtualization, and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. The Network Engineer also supervises and mentors technical staff while ensuring the availability, reliability, performance, and security of mission‑critical technology systems.

Responsibilities

• Network Infrastructure and Security
• Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure across multiple organizational locations.
• Configure, manage, and support Cisco switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, and related networking technologies.
• Design, implement, and maintain Fortinet FortiGate firewall environments and security policies.
• Manage firewall policies, VPNs, security profiles, web filtering, intrusion prevention, and threat protection services.
• Configure and support site‑to‑site VPN, remote‑access VPN, WAN, SD‑WAN, and internet connectivity.
• Monitor network and firewall performance, availability, logs, and security alerts.
• Develop and maintain network architecture diagrams, technical standards, procedures, and operational documentation.
• Implement network segmentation, access controls, and zero‑trust security principles throughout the enterprise.
• Cloud and Virtualization Administration
• Administer and support Microsoft Azure environments, including networking, virtual machines, storage, identity, and security services.
• Design and maintain hybrid connectivity between on‑premises infrastructure and Azure cloud environments.
• Administer Microsoft Hyper‑V environments, including hosts, virtual machines, clustering, replication, storage, backups, and performance optimization.
• Support cloud migration, infrastructure modernization, backup, high availability, and disaster recovery initiatives.
• Cybersecurity and Compliance
• Apply security best practices across network, firewall, cloud, and virtualization environments.
• Administer FortiGate security appliances and related security services to protect organizational systems and data.
• Perform firmware upgrades, firewall rule reviews, vulnerability remediation, and security configuration assessments.
• Assist with security incidents, audits, access reviews, and compliance‑related infrastructure documentation.
• Support identity management, multi‑factor authentication, privileged access controls, and secure remote connectivity.
• Leadership and Staff Supervision
• Supervise, mentor, and develop systems administrators and help desk personnel.
• Assign work, monitor team performance, provide coaching, and support professional development.
• Establish technical standards, operating procedures, documentation practices, and escalation processes.
• Foster collaboration across infrastructure, cybersecurity, applications, data, vendors, and support teams.
• Project and Vendor Management
• Lead network, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, and technology projects from planning through implementation.
• Coordinate with vendors, consultants, managed service providers, internet service providers, telecom carriers, and internal stakeholders.
• Develop project plans, schedules, resource requirements, risk assessments, and implementation documentation.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve network reliability, security, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in network engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure management.
• At least 2 years of technical leadership, team lead, or supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise, multi‑site network environments and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Required Skills

• Experience with Cisco routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP, VPNs, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
• Fortinet / FortiGate
• Experience administering FortiGate firewalls, including policies, VPNs, SD‑WAN, security profiles, IPS, web filtering, firmware upgrades, logging, and rule reviews.
• FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer experience preferred.
• Microsoft Hyper‑V
• Experience with Hyper‑V host administration, virtual machine management, clustering, replication, storage, backups, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Azure Virtual Networks, virtual machines, VPN Gateway, Azure Firewall, identity and security services, storage, backup, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Microsoft Infrastructure
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, identity management, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root‑cause analysis capabilities.
• Strong understanding of enterprise network architecture, cybersecurity, and firewall administration.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects, support requests, outages, and operational responsibilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong technical documentation and diagramming skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, team development

Preferred Qualifications

• Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification.
• Fortinet NSE 4, NSE 5, NSE 6, or equivalent certification.
• Experience with FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiAuthenticator.
• Experience with disaster recovery, business continuity, and high‑availability infrastructure.
• Experience managing technology vendors, telecom carriers, MSPs, ISPs, and security partners.

Physical and Availability Requirements

• Ability to lift and move IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to travel between organizational locations as needed.
• Ability to participate in occasional evening, weekend, or emergency maintenance activities.
• Ability to work in server rooms, wiring closets, and other technology environments as required.
