Job summary

Woodard & Curran, Inc. is seeking an O&M Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the network infrastructure supporting remote locations across the United States. The role emphasizes cybersecurity, reliability, and scalability, with travel up to 50% and on-site as needed.

A BS in CS or equivalent plus 5 years of experience is required. Candidates should have knowledge of IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS, and network monitoring tools.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on network engineer experience.
  • CCNA or CCNP desirable.
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
  • Knowledge of network management/monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark).
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and work after hours if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, implement, install, monitor and maintain LAN, WAN, and WLAN infrastructure with focus on cybersecurity and safety in an O&M plant environment.
  • Maintain and optimize networking systems for efficient, secure and reliable performance.
  • Implement and enforce cybersecurity principles and best practices across networks.
  • Monitor cellular and satellite network performance; identify issues and provide resolutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues; update network documentation and procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to meet business needs.

As ourOperations & Management Strategic Business Unit (O&M SBU)grows, we are looking to add a new member toourtechnology team!The O&M Network Engineeris responsible forthe design, implementation, installation, and maintenance of network infrastructure supporting remote locations across the United States, both remotely and on-site. This role ensures the reliable operation of network hardware, rapidly diagnoses and resolves technical issues, and protects both IT and OT environments through effective cybersecurity practices. The O&M Network Engineermaintainsaccuratedocumentation of network configurations, system changes, and issue resolutions to support operational transparency, continuity, and knowledge sharing. Additionally, the position contributes to the development of innovative solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the O&M network infrastructure. Serving as a trusted technical advisor, the engineer communicates complex technical information clearly and effectively to O&M project teams and management.Above all, therolemaintainsa strong commitment to site safety and safe work practices.

The location for this role isflexible,and we are open to remote employment with the ability to travel as needed to our facilities across the country.Travel will vary betweencarand airline based on your location in relation to our projects. Weanticipateup to 50%travelin this role.

The travelrequirementswill fluctuate depending on project and client needs.

What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?
  • Design, configure, implement, install,monitorand maintain LAN, WAN, and WLAN infrastructure with a focus on cybersecurity and safety and operational efficiency in an O&M plant environment, ensuring network safety and performance.
  • Maintain and optimize networking systems applying in-depth technical knowledge to ensure efficient, secure, and reliable network performance.
  • Implement and enforce cybersecurity principles and best practices, with a focus on protecting networks and systems while ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Monitor traditional, cellular and satellite network performance, capacity and security, identify potentialissues, andprovidesolutions to ensure networks areoperatingefficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Maintain and update network documentation, diagrams, and procedures
  • Configure and implement networking technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls,VPNsand security protocols.
  • Communicate technical information in an easily understandable way to non-technical employees.
  • Update the IT ticketing and project management system with detailed notesregardingassigned tasks/resolutions.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, vendors,ISPsand stakeholders to ensure network solutions meet business needs.
  • Keep abreast of the latest networking technologies/best practices, security, and trends.
  • May be involved in disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Mayparticipatein vendor selection and evaluation.
What will you need to succeed?
  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 yearsofhands-on network engineer experience.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) desirable.
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS) and the OSI/TCP-IP models, hardware (Cisco, Pal Alto,Cradlepoint, Starlink, etc.) and network management/monitoring tools (Solar Winds, Wireshark, etc.).
  • In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems and hardware such as LAN, firewalls, routers, switches, access points,cybersecurity and principlesand practices related to site safety.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of cellular and satellite devices.
  • Excellent time management, communication, troubleshooting, problem-solvingskillsand ability to work independently and inteamenvironment.
  • Ability to travelasneededfor onsite network support.Up to50%.
  • Ability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) and/or Certified IS Security Professional (CISSP) highly preferred.
  • Successful candidates willbe requiredto complete a pre-placement background check, drug screen, and physicalin order tocomplete the offer process.

$75,000 - $105,000 a year

This position’santicipatedpay range is provided below; the final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will depend on experience level and consider a percentage-based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect the cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
