Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a long-term federal program focusing on enterprise network security and infrastructure modernization. This on-site role at Pearl Harbor, HI requires an active DoD Secret clearance and DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification, with vendor certifications such as CISSP/CASP+/CCNP Security as a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification required (CISSP, CASP+, or CCNP Security).
• Associate-level vendor certification (Cisco/Juniper/Palo Alto/F5) preferred.
• Extensive experience with enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and DMZ.
• Strong knowledge of routing, switching, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VLANs, STP, LLDP, VoIP, multicast.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise firewall, VPN, and DMZ infrastructure.
• Engineer Juniper and Cisco security appliances.
• Provide Tier III escalation support for complex network issues.
• Coordinate with operations and engineering teams on incident response and root cause analysis.
• Plan upgrades, integrations, and security enhancements.
• Develop and validate engineering plans, procedures, and documentation.
• Improve network performance and security through optimization and defense-in-depth controls.
• Contribute to automation and IaC using Ansible and Python.
• Support on-call and off-hours maintenance.

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a long-term federal program focused on enterprise network security and infrastructure modernization. This position is 100% on-site in Pearl Harbor, HI. Candidates must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.

The Network Engineer will provide Tier III engineering expertise across enterprise firewalls, VPNs, DMZ environments, and network security appliances. This role combines hands‑on network engineering with complex troubleshooting, secure infrastructure design, and operational improvements supporting mission‑critical services.

Responsibilities of the Network Engineer include:

• Design, configure, deploy, and maintain enterprise firewall, VPN, and DMZ infrastructure
• Engineer and troubleshoot Juniper firewalls and Cisco network and security appliances
• Provide Tier III escalation support for complex network security, connectivity, and infrastructure issues
• Coordinate with network operations and engineering teams on incident response, root cause analysis, problem resolution, and vendor escalations
• Plan and execute network upgrades, integrations, configuration changes, and security enhancements
• Develop and validate Engineering Implementation Plans, maintenance procedures, rollback plans, and technical documentation
• Improve network performance, reliability, and security through infrastructure optimization and defense‑in‑depth controls
• Develop SOPs, technical procedures, and engineering standards while identifying opportunities for automation
• Support off‑hours maintenance, incident response, and an on‑call rotation

Required Qualifications for the Network Engineer include:

• Bachelor’s degree and 8–12 years of relevant experience; additional experience may substitute for education at the hiring manager’s discretion
• Must have an Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
• Active DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification, such as CISSP, CASP+, or CCNP Security
• Active associate-level network vendor certification from Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or F5 Networks
• Extensive experience engineering, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and DMZ infrastructure
• Strong hands‑on experience with Juniper firewalls and Cisco network and security appliances
• Experience with routing, switching, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS‑IS, VLANs, Spanning Tree, LLDP, VoIP, and multicast
• Strong knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, network architecture, enterprise topologies, and network security controls
• Experience providing Tier III support, coordinating vendor escalations, and performing root cause analysis
• Experience planning enterprise network changes, upgrades, and maintenance activities
• Experience with network automation and Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and Python
• Ability to participate in on‑call coverage and off‑hours maintenance

Compensation for the Network Engineer includes:

Salary Range: $100,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience
