Job summary

Applied Network Solutions, Inc. seeks a GNOC Tier II Network Technician to plan, analyze, design, and maintain LAN/WAN networks in Chantilly, VA.

The role requires high-level expertise in routing, switching, MPLS, and security with a focus on incident resolution and proactive network optimization. You will work with Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, and various network tools to support a DoD-focused environment and ensure mission-critical connectivity.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance and Polygraph required.
  • 10 years of experience with a combination of work history and education (e.g., Doctorate + 3 yrs, Master's + 4 yrs, Bachelor's + 6 yrs, etc.).
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 compliance.
  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Brocade and Foundry OS.
  • Layer 1-3 network experience.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve incident tickets for GNOC LAN/WAN.
  • Configure and troubleshoot VLANs and layer 2 switching.
  • Troubleshoot OSI layers 1-3 to resolve network faults.
  • Manage MPLS routing across WAN and VPNs.
  • Evaluate new network technologies and provide integration recommendations.
  • Coordinate with vendors to resolve incidents.

ANS is seeking a Network Engineer (GNOC Tier II Network Technician)to join our team in Chantilly, VA.

Requirements
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and Polygraph required
  • Candidate must have 10 years of experience that can be a combination of work history and education. This equates to a Doctorate and 3 years, master’s and 4 years, bachelor’s and 6 years, associates and 8 years or HS diploma and 10 years.
  • Compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) 8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS), Juniper JUNOS, Brocade and Foundry Operating System (OS)
  • Layer 1, 2, and 3 network experience
  • Familiarity (doesn’t need to be an SME) with Layer 3 protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Label-switched Path (LSP), and Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visio and ServiceNow
  • From the GNOC location the Tier 2 network technician will leverage device command line interfaces to remotely support the installation and maintenance of the client Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) devices. Respond to and resolve incident tickets.
  • Configure and troubleshoot layer 2 switching (Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs))
  • Leverage knowledge of OSI layers 1, 2, and 3 to troubleshoot various network faults and performance issues
  • Modify and troubleshoot layer three routing across the enterprise network
  • Conduct extensive troubleshooting of Multiprotocol Label Switch (MPLS) across the WAN.
  • Participate in evaluation of new network technologies and provide recommendations to the network architecture team regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network. Ensures that plans for hardware and communications are adequate. Develops and implements methodologies for analysis, testing, and support of LAN and WAN networks.
  • Leverage various network tools such as Microfocus and Riverbed to quickly identify and isolate customer impacting events on the network
  • Make use of problem management best practices to minimize recurring customer impacting incidents on the network.
  • Communicate and troubleshoot with vendors and other service providers to efficiently resolve incidents
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems and coordinate the replacement of defective components
  • Support operations and maintain activities and administer networks including hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
  • Support network operations and maintenance activities via technical exchange meetings
  • Any other tasks as needed to provide proper network related support for customer mission focused systems.
  • Network engineering and design experience specific to CAN/LAN. Experience should include application of industry standards, developing configurations, and integration of solutions into production environments.
  • Network engineering and design experience with MPLS WANs, network management tools, and firewalls.
  • Expert knowledge of routing and switching protocols and the ability to demonstrate knowledge through briefings and documentation. Extensive BGP experience a plus.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional - Enterprise Routing and Switching (JNCIP-ENT) equivalent knowledge.
  • Initiative and disciplined to work unsupervised as part of a network engineering team. Experience establishing process, developing documents, and organizing repositories a plus.
