Job summary

Object CTalk seeks a Network Engineer to support DoD network operations in the Washington DC metropolitan area. The role requires extensive experience with enterprise Cisco networks, DoD security requirements, and troubleshooting in classified and unclassified environments.

The candidate will monitor networks, resolve incidents, perform configurations on routers and switches, coordinate with vendors, and ensure compliance with DoD security guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related network engineering experience (additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (required).
  • Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II.
  • Certification such as CCNA or CCNP Security.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor enterprise network infrastructure for alarms, performance issues, and operational messages.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network incidents, escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Perform network troubleshooting using established procedures, scripts, and diagnostic tools.
  • Configure, maintain, and resolve issues involving enterprise routers and switches.
  • Coordinate with hardware and service vendors during outages or degraded network performance.
  • Process Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) as directed by management.
  • Maintain network security compliance in accordance with DoD policies, including STIGs, Cisco IOS upgrades, security patches and vulnerability remediation.

Position Overview

Object CTalk is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support mission-critical Department of Defense network operations within the Washington DC metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with enterprise network infrastructure, Cisco networking technologies, DoD security requirements, and network troubleshooting in both classified and unclassified environments. This position supports daily operations, special projects, and on-call network support while ensuring the availability, security, and performance of enterprise network systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor enterprise network infrastructure for alarms, performance issues, and operational messages.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network incidents, escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Perform network troubleshooting using established procedures, scripts, and diagnostic tools.
  • Configure, maintain, and resolve issues involving enterprise routers and switches.
  • Coordinate with hardware and service vendors during outages or degraded network performance.
  • Process Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) as directed by management.
  • Maintain network security compliance in accordance with DoD policies, including:
    • Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
    • Cisco IOS upgrades
    • Security patches and vulnerability remediation
    • Local command cybersecurity requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related network engineering experience (additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (required).
  • Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II
  • certification (such as CCNA or CCNP Security).
  • Expert knowledge of:
    • LAN switching technologies
    • VLANs, VTP, Port Security
    • Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
    • Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching
  • Expert knowledge of Layer 3 routing protocols including:
    • OSPF
    • EIGRP
    • IS-IS
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience in both classified and unclassified network environments.
  • Experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network encryption devices, including management using DoD management tools.
