Network Engagement Consultant - The Legal Clinic Fund for Local News at The Miami Foundation

The Legal Clinic Fund at The Miami Foundation is seeking a part-time Network Engagement Consultant to support the Fund’s efforts to connect journalists and news providers to First Amendment-related legal resources. The Consultant will serve as a knowledge source and connector between the journalists who need support and the extensive network of First Amendment legal resources that exist across the country.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Amplify the various legal resources available to local journalists.
  • Engage journalism support organizations to identify existing support and member needs, potentially including engaging membership to identify existing knowledge gaps.
  • Engage legal support organizations to identify all available resources, including target audience, what the organization can and cannot do, and where they see potential for new connections.
  • Identify efficient and useful pathways for connecting journalists and news providers to specific resources.

Desired Experience

  • ·Strong knowledge of the range of First Amendment legal resources that exist across the country.
  • Deep understanding of, and ideally relationships with, the national journalism intermediary and membership organizations that are serving local news providers.
  • Understanding of and ability to speak knowledgeably about the First Amendment threats currently facing journalists.
  • Proven ability to create and cultivate powerful relationships and connections.
  • Exceptional skills in the areas of solution-focused problem solving, attention to detail, time management, and defining, setting and balancing priorities.

Specifics:

  • Part-time, 20-25 hours per week, with the potential to increase hours in the future.
  • Virtual role with up to 25% travel to relevant conferences and gatherings.
  • The final determination of the selected candidate's compensation pay will be based on experience and qualifications.

About the Legal Clinic Fund for Local News

The Legal Clinic Fund for Local News is a collaborative fund based at The Miami Foundation to support the growth and sustainability of legal clinics across the United States that seek to advance and defend First Amendment rights, media freedom, and transparency in their communities and nationally.

Since 2019, the Fund has provided $5.2 million grants to support the clinics’ growth, collaboration, capacity building, and experimentation. This Fund aims to be a catalyst for the growth and sustainability of existing clinics and centers and will provide newsrooms and journalists with increased legal resources and representation for those who are least likely to receive it from traditional sources. Ultimately, the Fund seeks to ensure that any newsroom or journalist who needs legal support can access it.
