Summary
Network Engineer 2 installs and maintains Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) for the enterprise. Salary range: $36.00–$55.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Analyze network needs and contribute to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
- Utilize expertise to create network and enterprise-wide solutions, focusing on server and workstation environments; includes LAN/WAN connectivity through switches and routers.
- Add new users to the directory and specify directory structures and system access.
- Troubleshoot network usage and peripheral issues.
- Support PC Specialists and augment them as required.
- Resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues and maintain connections.
- Design, install, and support network solutions on multiple platforms in the LAN/WAN architecture.
- Install and maintain local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network devices, wireless access points, and cabling.
- Evaluate hardware and software requirements and capabilities and make recommendations.
- Monitor and maintain the company e‑mail system.
- Monitor and maintain the company internet access.
- Coordinate installation of hardware and software by others.
- Provide support to and train users in local area network administration and usage.
- Monitor and maintain network stability.
- Communicate and coordinate network schedule, backups, and downtime to users.
- Coordinate third‑party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services.
- May coordinate other network engineers and Desktop Support Technicians.
- Prepare and maintain documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.
- Accurately estimate workload and deliver high‑quality work product in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with peers, customers, and management.
- Work collaboratively and maintain a high sense of teamwork.
- Follow instructions and procedures, and elevate issues impacting workflow or quality.
- Exhibit honesty, integrity, and adherence to rules, procedures and policies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Expertise in network hardware, software, and network operating systems.
- 6+ years of related experience.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS/BFA/BSA) from a four‑year college or university.
- Preferred major: Computer Science.
- Minimum years of experience: 5–10 years.
- Language skills: proficient reading, analysis, and interpretation of business and technical documents in English; ability to write technical reports and correspondence.
- Mathematical skills: proficiency in arithmetic, percentages, ratios, proportions; ability to use graphs.
- Reasoning ability: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and interpret technical instructions.
