Job summary

Lehigh Carbon Community College seeks a mid‑level IT Network and Security Specialist to install, configure, and maintain campus LAN/WAN/WLAN and security infrastructure. Travel to other LCCC sites may be required; reports to the Assistant Director of Network and Security.

The role handles firewalls, VPNs, IAM, vulnerability management, incident response, and documentation. Requires 5+ years enterprise experience, CCNA/Security+, and knowledge of Windows, Linux, Aruba/Palo Alto solutions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of enterprise network and/or cybersecurity experience.
  • 60+ college credits in a relevant field if no 5 years experience.
  • CCNA or Security+ or equivalent certification; Act 153 clearances.
  • Experience with ArubaOS/ArubaCX/Comware and Palo Alto or similar next‑gen firewalls.
  • Okta IAM, NAC, EDR, vulnerability management, and VPN tools experience.
  • Windows and Linux administration and strong documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support campus LAN/WAN/WLAN and security equipment.
  • Administer security services: firewalls, VPN, IAM, NAC, and EDR.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to security incidents and threats.
  • Develop technical docs and network/cybersecurity diagrams.
  • Coordinate with vendors and cross‑department projects.
  • Provide after‑hours support and on‑call coverage as needed.
  • Support security awareness programs and campus training.

Job description

Summary

Individual will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and advanced support of the institution’s physical and logical LAN/WAN/WLAN network, cybersecurity, and other IT infrastructure. This mid-level role combines robust network administration with proactive cybersecurity management, including firewall orchestration, security event handling, identity, and vulnerability management. Must be available to travel to other LCCC sites if needed.

This position will report directly to the Assistant Director of Network and Security.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Maintain and support the institution’s physical LAN/WAN/WLAN network consisting of multivendor network and security equipment.
  • Maintain and support network, cybersecurity, identity solutions and audits, and work with third-party cybersecurity teams when required.
  • Administer network and cybersecurity services including firewalls, ACLs, VPNs, EDR, NAC, IAM, vulnerability management and monitoring solutions.
  • Analyze, research and report on best practices around network and cybersecurity related services, best practices, and trends.
  • Prepare technical documentation and knowledge sharing with others.
  • Develop and maintain network and cybersecurity diagrams and other related documentation.
  • Manage the installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrade of network and cybersecurity infrastructure.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of all network layers with a primary focus on layers 1 – 3
  • Proactively monitor networks and cybersecurity alerts to ensure service disruptions for business-critical IT services are identified and resolved in a timely manner, including after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Participate in cybersecurity incident response procedures, threat containment, and post-incident remediation in coordination with internal leadership and third-party security partners.
  • Administer cybersecurity and auditing tools to ensure the detection of security events such as attacks and data loss.
  • Assist in the design, execution, and monitoring of campus-wide security awareness programs including phishing simulations, security training initiatives, and standard operating procedures to educate faculty, staff, and students on cybersecurity best practices.
  • Supports scheduled system maintenance tasks.
  • Administration of LAN infrastructure including racking, stacking, configuration, maintenance and upgrade of switches, routers, firewalls, etc.
  • Constructs, terminates and tests network interface cables for use between network servers, workstations and other network and security equipment.
  • Manages and supports cross-departmental IT initiatives and external vendor projects, including scoping requirements, vendor quoting, equipment installation, and long-term maintenance of networking and cybersecurity solutions.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts with respect to all aspects of network and cybersecurity.
  • Develops and maintains an operations manual for this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (mandatory for all candidates).

AND

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience managing network and/or cybersecurity services at an enterprise level.

OR

  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience managing network and/or cybersecurity services at an enterprise level with 60+ earned credits of higher education in a relevant field.
Certifications
  • CCNA, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent network or cybersecurity certification. If not in possession, must acquire within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
Work Experience
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Proven experience with using data to drive troubleshooting and decision making.
  • Experience with CLI administration, preferably with ArubaOS, ArubaCX and/or Comware
  • Experience with Palo Alto or other nextgen firewalls.
  • Experience with Okta or other Identity Access Management (IAM) systems.
  • Experience with network monitoring solutions.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux based operating systems.
  • Experience with project planning, prioritizing assignments, establishing work schedules, and meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with higher education security and compliance standards (e.g., FERPA, GLBA, NIST 800-171, or CIS Controls).

  • Understanding of campus networking protocols and concepts including but not limited to: TCP/IP, VPN, BGP, MSTP, VLAN trunking, TACACS+, and subnetting
  • Comfort level with troubleshooting OSI layers 1, 2 and 3 and general knowledge of all network layers in the OSI model.
  • Ability to perform 24×7 troubleshooting, including off-hour maintenance windows, problem resolution, and on-call duty.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with Aruba & HPE networking solutions, Palo Alto, Okta, Windows, Linux, virtualization and cloud environments.
  • Experience deploying, configuring and maintaining industry leading nextgen firewalls
  • Command line experience.
  • Current Industry certifications such as SANS(GIAC), CCNA, ACSA, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+ or educational equivalents.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Educational setting experience serving the mission of the community college.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. This position will be required to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
