Job summary

HII Mission Technologies seeks an experienced Network Administrator to ensure robust, secure LAN/WAN/VPN operations supporting Navy missions. You will monitor, configure, and optimize network infrastructure, coordinate with Navy/DISA, and maintain IA compliance across critical training environments.

Requirements include DoD 8570 Level II baseline, Cisco IOS expertise, and DoD Secret clearance. On-call shifts and collaboration with a broad team are expected as part of mission readiness.

Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting WAN/LAN equipment and circuits.
  • Experience monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting ASA firewall ACLs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot at the protocol/packet level using sniffers, protocol analyzers, NetFlow, logging, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco networking, including IP addressing, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, multicast), and Cisco IOS.
  • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP).
  • Current or active DoD Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain LAN/WAN/VPN networks.
  • Plan, install, configure, and reconfigure network hardware and software (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues (WAN circuits, router/switch configs, firewall ACLs, VoIP devices).
  • Coordinate with Navy, DISA, and circuit providers for implementation and resolution.
  • Maintain Information Assurance compliance (IOS upgrades, config changes, firewall ACL verification).
  • Support remote sites in restoring network operations after outages.
  • Prepare and maintain network documentation (instructions, records).
  • Monitor network performance; analyze and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment.
  • Design network solutions to meet evolving needs.
  • Work periodic shifts including evenings, nights, weekends.

Who We Are

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an experienced Network Communications professional to join our team!

This position directly contributes to U.S. Navy mission readiness by ensuring robust, secure communications throughout critical training environments. By sustaining high‑performance network operations, you help safeguard sensitive information, enable effective training, and ensure Navy personnel have the dependable network resources required to accomplish their mission.

What You Will Do

Operate, monitor, and maintain local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and virtual private networks (VPN) to ensure smooth, reliable performance.

Plan, install, configure, and reconfigure network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, multiplexers, hubs, bridges, and gateways.

Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, including WAN circuits, equipment failures, router/switch configurations, firewall ACLs, VoIP device setup, and cryptographic device/keying material.

Coordinate with Navy, DISA, and commercial circuit providers for network implementation and issue resolution.

Maintain Information Assurance compliance, including IOS upgrades, configuration changes, and firewall ACL verification.

Support remote sites in restoring network operations after outages or failures.

Prepare and maintain network documentation, including operational instructions and configuration records.

Monitor network performance, conduct analysis, and provide recommendations for short‑and long‑term improvements.

Coordinate third‑party maintenance for network equipment when required.

Design network solutions, including hardware and software selection, to meet evolving operational needs.

  • Work periodic shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends, as required to support mission readiness and operational continuity.
What You Must Have
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Candidate must have experience installing and troubleshooting WAN/LAN equipment and circuits.
  • Candidate must have experience monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting ASA firewall ACLs.
  • Candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot at the protocol/packet level using sniffers, protocol analyzers, NetFlow, logging, etc.
  • Candidate must have strong knowledge of Cisco networking, including IP addressing, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, multicast), and Cisco IOS.
  • Candidate must hold a DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP).
  • Candidate must hold a current of active DoD Secret security clearance.
Bonus Points For Having!
  • Understanding of IP networking fundamentals, OSI model, and packet/frame structures.

Experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) environment, including help desk, customer communication, and ticket resolution.

Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs).

Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds).

Knowledge of network security technologies, including firewalls, VRFs, and port‑security/802.1x.

Experience with NSA Type 1 cryptographic devices and keymat (KG‑175D, KG‑75).

Willingness to work periodic shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Physical Requirements
