Job description

Position Title: Network Administrator – Data Center Operations

Location: Ashburn, VA

Clearance Requirements: None (US Work Authorization required)

Position Status: Full Time, Onsite

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Network Administrator to join our Data Center Operations team in Ashburn, VA. This role provides hands‑on support for data center infrastructure, network, and server systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability. You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the technical environment while collaborating with internal teams and vendors. This is a 4x10 night shift position (8:00 PM – 6:30 AM, likely Sunday–Wednesday) at Equinix DC15/DC16.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network and server hardware (rack & stack, HDD, memory, CPU, NICs, RAID batteries).
  • Conduct data center staging, deployment, hardware refreshes, and asset management.
  • Install, test, and terminate Cat6 cabling; provide fiber and copper cable testing.
  • Maintain and update rack elevations and documentation using DCIM tools (e.g., Nlyte).
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot incidents, and escalate as needed.
  • Work with vendors and internal teams to resolve outages and ensure operational continuity.
  • Configure, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on network and data center equipment.
  • Operate out‑of‑band management/KVM systems (DSVIEW), PDUs, and other power distribution hardware.
  • Follow data center safety standards, lift equipment up to 50 lbs., and adhere to organizational processes.
  • Participate in documentation updates, procedure enhancements, and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills / Education
  • 5–10 years of progressive Data Center / IT Operations experience.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, protocols, and standards.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewall technologies.
  • Familiarity with electrical and optical transceivers (SFP+, QSFP+, GLCT, DAC, CFP2, DWDM).
  • Familiarity with server hardware components and cabling best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a 24/7 operational team.
  • US Work Authorization (Citizens, Green Card Holders, TN Visa, Green Card EAD).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience with data center design, heat dissipation, airflow, and containment solutions.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across software and hardware systems.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions and recommendations.
