Job summary

Nightwing is seeking a Network Administrator to design, deploy, operate, and maintain terrestrial, satellite, and WAN/MAN/LAN networks. You will work with leadership and engineering teams on deployment planning, monitoring, and documentation to ensure robust, secure connectivity.

The role requires strong networking fundamentals, OS knowledge, scripting, and security skills, with experience in monitoring tools and proposal generation for new technologies. On-site work in Sterling, VA is expected.

Qualifications

• Networking fundamentals, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and routing/switching hardware.
• Troubleshooting to diagnose connectivity, performance, and security issues.
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, macOS networking configurations.
• PowerShell or Python scripts for automation and management.
• Knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption.
• Experience with network monitoring tools to track performance and issues.

Responsibilities

• Plan network configurations for integration with existing systems and performance optimization.
• Prepare technical proposals for engineering review boards prior to adding new technologies.
• Perform operational and maintenance activities including performance testing and troubleshooting.
• Use monitoring tools to analyze links and identify architecture, provider, or environment issues.

**This position is CONTINGENT upon contract award**

The Network Administrator (NA) collaboratively works closely with the leadership, CPM/CPO, FE SRE and Product Team (Platform) to design, engineer, install, operate, and maintain the terrestrial, satellite, and WAN/MAN/LAN networks and communication systems. The CNE works with FEs, SREs and leadership to assist in deployment planning and onboard systems into PWW. They assist with monitoring, system analysis, and IT operations support. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Plan network configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal network performance
• Prepare technical proposals for presentation to the Sponsor’s engineering review boards for approval prior to the addition of new technologies to the network
• Perform operational and maintenance activities to include performance testing, network/Cloud troubleshooting and tuning.
• Utilize array of network monitoring tools/scripts to perform detailed analysis of communications links to identify architecture, provider or environment issues to identify performance problems in the network
• Troubleshoot to restore network to optimal performance levels
• Compose technical documents including Design, Deployment, System specifications and system baselines, updates, user’s manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports. Includes network maps and communications architecture.

Required Skills:

• Networking Fundamentals: Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and hardware (routers, switches, firewalls).
• Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, slow performance, and security breaches.
• Operating Systems: Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and their networking configurations.
• Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and system management.
• Security: Knowledge of network security principles and best practices, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and data encryption.
• Monitoring and Management: Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds) to track network performance and identify potential issues.

Desired Skills:

• Cloud Computing: Familiarity with cloud networking services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based network infrastructure.
• Wireless Networking: Experience with designing and implementing wireless networks (Wi-Fi).
• Virtualization: Understanding of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V) and their impact on network infrastructure.
• Network Design and Planning: Ability to design and plan network architectures for various organizational needs.
• Project Management: Experience with project management methodologies and tools for network implementation and upgrades.

Salary & Benefits

The salary associated with this position ($122,000-$253,000) is commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, and demonstrated level of expertise. Compensation will be determined based on these factors to ensure alignment with skills, responsibilities, and market standards.
