Job summary

Vertiv (ERS / HVM) is seeking a Field Engineer - Electrical Testing (NETA Level III/IV) to lead acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing on electrical power systems up to 500kV. The role requires 7+ years of hands-on HV testing and strong knowledge of NETA MTS/ATS standards.

You will mentor junior technicians, serve as technical lead on multi-discipline teams, and ensure safety compliance. Travel up to 75% for regional/national project assignments with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• NETA Level III/IV certification is required and must be current.
• 7+ years of hands-on electrical testing in medium/high voltage environments.
• Strong knowledge of NETA MTS/ATS standards.
• Proficiency with test equipment (Doble, Megger, Omicron, Dranetz, SKF).
• Ability to read one-line and schematic diagrams, P&IDs.

Responsibilities

• Perform acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing on electrical power systems up to 500kV.
• Conduct power system studies incl. short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and power quality analysis.

What You'll Do

• Perform acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing on electrical power systems and equipment up to 500kV
• Conduct power system studies including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and power quality analysis
• Test and calibrate protective relays (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based)
• Perform insulation resistance, power factor, and contact resistance testing on transformers, switchgear, cables, and circuit breakers
• Interpret and analyze test results; author comprehensive engineering reports with findings and recommendations
• Troubleshoot complex electrical system failures under time-critical conditions
• Mentor and train Level I/II technicians in the field
• Serve as technical lead on multi-discipline project teams
• Maintain compliance with NETA MTS/ATS standards, NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety requirements

Required

• NETA Level III or Level IV Certification (current and in good standing)
• 7+ years of hands‑on electrical testing experience in medium/high voltage environments
• Expert knowledge of NETA MTS and ATS standards
• Proficiency with test equipment: Doble, Megger, Omicron, Dranetz, SKF, and equivalent
• Strong understanding of protective relay schemes and coordination
• Ability to read and interpret one‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, schematics, and P&IDs
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Willingness to travel regionally (up to 75%)

Preferred

• NETA Level IV Certification
• NICET Certification
• Experience with SF6 breaker maintenance
• Power systems engineering or related degree
• Prior leadership/supervisory experience on testing projects
• Experience in data center, utility, or industrial critical power environments

The anticipated salary range for this role in the CA, Cleveland- OH, CO, CT, NYC, MA, ME, MD, NJ, HI, IL, MN, VA, VT, Washington D.C localities are between $158,8526 to $230,000 per year -salary ranges for other geographic localities may vary. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance and are role based. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to receive and/or participate in profit sharing, allowances, travel and/or car expenses, and earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization depending on the terms of the employee’s role and individual offer details. The role is eligible to participate in a comprehensive and competitive benefits program, including medical, dental, vision, disability, PTO, holiday pay, and 401k. The anticipated salary range for this role in the State of Washington locality is between $174,709 to $230,000 per year -salary ranges for other geographic localities may vary.
