RRD is seeking an experienced .NET Developer within the Healthcare Workflow Solutions group to design, develop, and implement quality technical solutions that align with IT standards. Job Description

Role Summary: The .Net Developer works collaboratively with customers, business analysts, domain architects, and software engineering team members to understand business requirements and drive the design, development, and implementation of quality technical solutions aligned with business strategies and IT architectural standards.

Positioned within the Healthcare Workflow Solutions group, this role is involved across all phases of the full systems life cycle, specializing in automated data processing, enterprise databases, and automated print composition workflows.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Systems Architecture & Workflow Development
  • Automated Processing Pipelines: Build and maintain automated data processing and print composition workflows utilizing XML, XSLT, MS SQL Server, and custom C# .NET services.
  • Requirements & Design Analysis: Review Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), recommend technical architectures, and implement data-driven workflows on the development platform.
  • System Modernization: Modernize legacy .NET Framework applications incrementally, separating business logic from tightly coupled web applications into APIs and background workers.
  • Print & Document Engineering: Programmatically process and manipulate PDF and Postscript files, manage hot-folder batch workflows, and align with manufacturing print practices.
Testing, Quality Assurance & Validation
  • Test Engineering: Develop unit tests, integration test suites, and test scripts; execute unit, regression, conversion, and parallel testing across environments.
  • Analysis & Documentation: Independently analyze and document test results to ensure software strictly adheres to functional and technical specifications.
  • Legacy Test Integration: Implement characterization tests and mocking frameworks (xUnit, NUnit, MSTest) to safely add test coverage to legacy applications without full rewrites.
Technical Support & Production Maintenance
  • Issue Resolution: Conduct tier-3 technical support, researching and resolving complex programming issues and implementing permanent solutions for recurring defects.
  • System Optimization: Diagnose production bugs in legacy/modern codebases, troubleshooting memory, CPU, timeout, and connection pool bottlenecks.
Project Management & Stakeholder Communication
  • Estimation & Governance: Formulate accurate time estimates for assigned tasks; actively participate in pre- and post-implementation project reviews.
  • Clear Communication: Convey technical concepts, updates, and project status clearly to peers, non-technical business partners, and leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering work experience.
  • Full-stack C# development across .NET Framework, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, REST/SOAP/WCF APIs, and self-hosted Kestrel services, with strong legacy defect diagnosis.
  • MS SQL Server mastery, T-SQL, complex queries, stored procedures, execution plan tuning, and transaction management.
  • JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, ASP.NET MVC, AJAX, jQuery, basic React, and API/layout debugging.
  • Event-driven design, RabbitMQ, background producers/consumers, retries, dead-letter queues, and idempotency.
  • NET CLI tools, PowerShell, Windows Scheduled Tasks, and hot-folder file workflows.
  • Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD automated build/release pipelines, and pull request governance.
  • Windows Server/IIS management, App Pools, basic networking (DNS/TCP/SSL), Nginx, and network diagnostics.
  • OWASP secure coding, web auth/authz, SAML SSO maintenance, and healthcare PII compliance.
  • Incremental modernization, maintainable API design, and multi-tenant code consolidation.
Preferred Technical Skills (Not required)
  • Incremental modernization, decoupling web business logic, building WinForms/Windows Services, reusable design, and running .NET Core on Linux.
  • SSIS/SSRS, database deployment automation, XML/XSLT transformations, and reporting architecture.
  • Modern React (Hooks/Context/Redux), Kendo UI integration, responsive/accessible design, and legacy JS refactoring.
  • MassTransit framework, distributed system troubleshooting, message versioning, and asynchronous workflow design.
  • Python CLI, JAMS enterprise scheduler, programmatic PDF/Postscript manipulation, and address validation.
  • On-prem Azure DevOps, TFVC-to-Git migrations, TeamCity/IIS deployments, and SonarQube quality checks.
  • Log analysis, Failed Request Tracing, HTTPS/certificate debugging, load balancing, and Kerberos auth troubleshooting.
  • Advanced SAML troubleshooting, enterprise secret/vault management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Modular monolith patterns, shared platform extraction, and technical debt reduction.

  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy job requirements through an equivalent number of years of applicable work experience.
  • Capability to take ambiguous, complex business challenges and convert them into clear, actionable technical solutions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to state messages with clarity and precision.

Preferred Domain Knowledge
  • Healthcare Workflows: Understanding of healthcare operational data processing, patient workflow solutions, and HIPAA data compliance standards.
  • Print & Composition Systems: Working understanding of print technologies, manufacturing batch processes, Postscript, PDF, and high-speed composition engines.
Additional Information

RRD's current salary range for this role is $85,000 to $136,000 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future.At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program. RRD's benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts.
