Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced NERC Compliance Engineer to support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the NERC Compliance Program for a growing North American renewable energy portfolio. This position will support assets across both the United States and Canada and will work closely with Operations and other internal teams to ensure compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards. The NERC Compliance Engineer will play a key role in developing and implementing compliance programs and internal controls, conducting internal compliance assessments, reviewing compliance evidence, and developing technical programs that support ongoing compliance across the North America Renewables fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's NERC Compliance Program.
- Partner with Operations and other internal stakeholders to maintain compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
- Develop and maintain compliance programs, procedures, processes, and internal controls.
- Lead and support internal compliance assessments, identifying potential gaps and developing corrective actions as needed.
- Review, validate, and maintain compliance evidence and documentation to ensure it meets applicable requirements.
- Develop technical programs and processes to support NERC compliance across renewable energy assets.
- Monitor regulatory and Reliability Standard changes and evaluate their potential impact on company operations.
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, and other teams to implement compliance requirements.
- Support preparation for external audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, documentation, controls, and overall program effectiveness.
- Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams regarding NERC compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized compliance records and ensure documentation is audit ready.
- Support NERC compliance activities across a geographically diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets in the U.S. and Canada.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience working with NERC Reliability Standards and compliance programs within the electric power industry.
- Experience supporting NERC compliance for generation, renewable energy, transmission, or other bulk electric system assets.
- Strong understanding of NERC compliance requirements, internal controls, and audit/assessment processes.
- Experience developing compliance procedures, controls, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify compliance risks and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across a geographically diverse asset portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting wind, solar, battery energy storage, or other renewable generation assets.
- Experience with NERC audit preparation and evidence management.
- Familiarity with applicable NERC standards for generation and/or transmission facilities.
- Professional engineering license or other relevant industry certification is a plus.
