Description du poste

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a NEPA Health Physicist/Nuclear Engineer based in the United States.

We are seeking a skilled Health Physicist or Nuclear Engineer with expertise in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and radiological impact analysis to support critical federal environmental reviews. In this remote, full-time role, you will contribute to assessments involving nuclear facilities, radioactive waste management, fuel cycle operations, and decommissioning projects. You will apply your technical knowledge of radiation protection, dose assessment, and regulatory compliance to develop scientifically rigorous and defensible environmental analyses. Working alongside multidisciplinary experts, you will translate complex scientific findings into clear documentation that supports informed federal decision-making. Your contributions will help evaluate environmental risks, protect public health, and promote responsible management of nuclear technologies. This opportunity is ideal for an analytical professional seeking meaningful work at the intersection of nuclear science, environmental policy, and public safety.

Accountabilities
  • NEPA Technical Analysis: Develop, review, and refine radiological impact assessments and technical sections for Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), Supplemental Environmental Impact Statements (SEISs), and Supplemental Assessments (SAs).
  • Radiological Dose Assessment and Modeling: Conduct radiological dose assessments, accident analyses, radioactive material transportation evaluations, and radiological consequence analyses in accordance with applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements and guidance.
  • Environmental Impact Evaluation: Assess potential radiological and related environmental impacts associated with nuclear facilities, nuclear fuel cycle operations, radioactive waste management sites, and nuclear facility decommissioning projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Technical Documentation: Prepare clear, traceable, technically rigorous, and defensible analyses for federal environmental review records, licensing proceedings, and rulemaking activities.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate with NEPA specialists and subject matter experts in ecology, air quality, socioeconomic analysis, cultural resources, and other environmental disciplines to develop integrated environmental assessments.
  • Alternatives and Cumulative Impact Analysis: Support the evaluation of reasonable alternatives, cumulative environmental impacts, and radiological modeling results to inform federal agency decisions.
  • Public Engagement and Communication: Provide technical input for public meeting materials, NEPA scoping summaries, responses to stakeholder comments, and response-to-comment matrices.
  • Federal Agency and Client Support: Collaborate with federal agencies and clients on radiological analyses, environmental review processes, and regulatory requirements, ensuring technical findings are communicated accurately and effectively.
Requirements
  • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Protection, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Direct NEPA Experience: Demonstrated experience supporting NEPA environmental reviews, including identifiable and verifiable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or Environmental Assessment (EA) projects documented in federal records.
  • Radiological Impact Analysis: Proven experience preparing or reviewing radiological impact assessments or radiological sections of environmental documents.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of NRC and DOE environmental review processes and applicable regulations, including NUREG-1555, 10 CFR Part 51, NRC licensing and rulemaking frameworks, and relevant DOE NEPA guidance.
  • Dose Assessment and Modeling Tools: Experience using radiological assessment and modeling software such as RESRAD, MicroShield, RASCAL, or equivalent tools.
  • Technical Writing and Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities and exceptional technical writing skills, with the capacity to communicate complex scientific and regulatory information clearly and develop evidence-based, defensible conclusions.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required.
  • Federal Agency Experience: Experience supporting environmental reviews for the NRC, DOE, Department of Defense (DOD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), or other federal agencies is preferred.
  • Nuclear Industry Expertise: Familiarity with radioactive waste management, nuclear facility decommissioning, waste incidental to reprocessing (WIR) evaluations, or nuclear fuel cycle facilities is an advantage.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Experience contributing to public meetings, regulatory briefings, stakeholder communications, or responses to public comments is preferred.
