Versar is seeking a mid-career NEPA and Environmental Planning Specialist with strong technical skills to support the preparation of high-quality, complex Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) and Environmental Assessments (EAs) for Air Force and other Department of Defense (DoD) projects throughout the United States. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to advance their career while supporting interesting and diverse DoD projects in a flexible, collaborative, and welcoming work environment. Projects supported by this position will include actions commonly associated with airspace and ranges, beddowns, aircraft and airfield operations, noise, new weapon and radar systems, satellites, and military construction. This role can be performed remotely and is organized under Versar’s Environmental Management Group (EM), NEPA and Planning Team. Candidates must be professional, resourceful, intuitive, motivated to learn, and have a flexible work schedule with availability to meet occasional priority deadlines outside of standard working hours.

Your contributions will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Technical document development (Description of Proposed Action and Alternatives [DOPAAs], EAs, EISs, Findings of No Significant Impact [FONSIs], Findings of No Practicable Alternative [FONPA], Records of Decision [RODs], scoping and consultation letters (Section 106, Section 7, etc.).
  • Environmental baseline and impacts analysis for various resource areas (e.g., safety, land use, hazardous waste, socioeconomics, environmental justice, infrastructure, water resources).
  • Working collaboratively with our NEPA PMs and technically and geographically dispersed team members.
  • Developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with Prime and Subcontractor team members as well as DoD clients to maximize contract and project opportunities.
  • Supporting preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and business development materials.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Natural resources, Wetlands Management, Geography, Planning, Geology, History/Cultural Resources, Acoustics, Aviation or a related planning or earth science field required. Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Professional certification / credentials (e.g., AICP, CEP, P.G., P.E., etc.) a plus.
  • 6-10+ years industry experience, preferably with NEPA consulting to the Air Force, DoD or other Federal clients.
  • Thorough working knowledge of NEPA and related regulations and processes (Section 7, Section 106, CWA, CAA, CZMA, etc.).
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting project tasks and deadlines.
  • Technical and/or field experience with environmental impact issues, associated permit processes and extensive experience preparing technical documents is critical.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent and relevant references.

Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance for work on DOD installations is required.
