Job summary

East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama seeks a Neonatal Respiratory Therapist to independently perform respiratory care procedures, interpret orders, assess patient needs, and deliver prescribed therapies in Level II Nursery, NICU and CBU. Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Minimum Experience: 1 year experience in Level 3 NICU.
• Required Registration/License/Certification: Alabama State license RRT credential from NBRC, BLS and NRP within 90 days of hire, ACLS and PALS within 12 months of hire.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from COARC Accredited program.
• Preferred Experience: 2 year clinical experience in Level 3 NICU.
• Preferred Registration/License/Certification: NPS credentials.
• Other Requirements: N/A

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory care procedures including interpreting physician orders, assessing patient needs, delivering prescribed therapy and evaluating patient response.
• Respond to therapies for patients in Level II Nursery, NICU and CBU, including night time CPAP/BIPAP and occasional blood gases.
• Provide consultation to the clinical team regarding respiratory care.
• Adapt to workload changes to maintain productivity and quality patient care.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for independently performing respiratory care procedures which requires the ability to interpret physician orders, assess patient needs, deliver prescribed therapy and evaluate patient response. This includes invasive procedures that may be performed with minimal supervision and minor assistance in patient care units and critical care areas. Therapists will serve in a consulting role by communicating suggestions to other members of the clinical team regarding the respiratory care delivered to patients in Level II Nursery, NICU and CBU. These therapists will respond to therapies ordered for patients on Mother Baby, OB Observation, and CBU 1&2. This would pretty much be limited to provision of Aerosol Therapies, night time CPAP/BIPAP, occasionally a blood gas and respond to any emergency response team calls in those areas. The position requires the ability to respond promptly to changes in workload and adjustment in assignments as needed to achieve optimal productivity, efficacy and quality patient care. Flexible work assignment in assisting the Respiratory Therapy Department as required
