We're hiring a Respiratory Therapist (CRT) for the Respiratory Care Services department for a Full-Time, Night shift at the University of Chicago Medicine, main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Note: Positions support the Pediatric/Neonatal patient populations. Student opportunities are also available for those enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.

Job Summary

The Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) administers respiratory treatments, procedures, and protocols under supervision, assessing patients to determine cardiopulmonary status and implementing care plans, including ventilations. Responsibilities include initiating and managing non-invasive and invasive ventilation per protocols.

Essential Job Functions

1. Administer supplemental oxygen and medical gas therapy as prescribed; document procedures accurately in EPIC.
2. Administer medications via nebulizers or inhalers, document procedures, and assess patients during administration.
3. Perform bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, airway care, and airway clearance techniques, documenting appropriately.
4. Initiate and manage non-invasive ventilation (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Cannula), assessing patient tolerance and adjusting as needed, with documentation.
5. Manage mechanical ventilation, including assessment, weaning, and documentation in EPIC.
6. Perform arterial blood gas analyses, troubleshoot analyzers, and report results timely.
7. Transport patients within the facility using appropriate oxygen and ventilation equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program (minimum two years)
• Diploma or Certificate of Completion and Associate’s Degree
• Effective communication and documentation skills
• CRT certification by NBRC
• RRT credential within 180 days of hire
• Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program, PALS, or ACLS preferred
