Neonatal Nurse Practitioner – Transport Team

$15,000 hiring bonus and relocation available to those who qualify. 15% stipend for Nocturnist/Night Shift.

Schedule: Full Time Night Shift, 12‑hour shifts, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Children’s Nebraska invites you to join our Neonatal Transport team. Our NNPs collaborate with flight nurses to provide state‑of‑the‑art neonatal care on fixed‑wing aircraft, helicopters, and ground ambulances across Nebraska and surrounding states. As a stand‑alone neonatal team, we frequently operate in multiple states within a single shift, requiring critical thinking and logistical adaptability.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the care and transport of neonates from referring facilities.
  • Apply proficiency in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, and emergency procedures.
  • Utilize the advanced nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, and document patient responses and outcomes.
  • Perform technical neonatal procedures such as lab and X‑ray interpretation, intubation, line placement, thoracentesis, thoracotomy, and intra‑osseous access.
  • Collaborate with physicians and referral teams, demonstrating strong leadership, nursing judgment, decision‑making, and problem‑solving.
  • Advocate for patients and families, maintaining professional conduct and clear communication.
  • Apply knowledge of healthcare economics to ensure cost‑effective resource utilization.
Education
  • APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska (as required by Department of Health and Human Services).
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Critical Care.
  • Experience may be satisfied as a Critical Care RN, Critical Care APRN, or a combination of both.
  • Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatrics is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (APRN, PA, RN).
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 days.
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation within 180 days.
  • NNP‑BC – Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certified.
  • CPNP‑AC – Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care (upon hire).
  • DEA License within 30 days.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor‑vehicle driving record.
  • Ability to work in ambulance, helicopter, and airplane transport vehicles (non‑conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes, extreme heat/cold).
  • Must be 225 lbs or under at hire (due to aircraft utilized).
Physical & Other Requirements
  • Must satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, including credentialing.
