Children’s Mercy in Kansas City is seeking a Lab Research Associate I to support the Neonatal Diseases Research Program. You will manage mouse studies, collect samples, and troubleshoot experiments in a translational and basic science setting.

The role involves working with the CMRI, analyzing data, and contributing to team publications while ensuring meticulous lab records and compliance with vaccine and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in biological sciences or related field with 3–5 years lab experience, or Bachelor's with 5–7 years.
  • 3–4 years of hands-on mouse experience, including mouse handling and procedures.
  • Experience with mouse genotyping, lung inflation, tissue collection and processing for histology.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and tissue-based lab techniques.
  • Ability to perform experiments independently with limited supervision and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments with limited direction and troubleshoot routine experimental problems.
  • Perform mouse handling and procedures, genotyping, lung inflation, tissue collection and processing.
  • Maintain mouse colonies and accurate experimental and sample records.
  • Collect, analyze and summarize data and communicate results with the research team.
  • Assist with training Research Assistants, students and trainees as needed.
