Job summary

NeighborScapes NFP seeks AmeriCorps members to help revitalize green spaces in Harvey, IL. You will work on community gardens, urban farms, and trails, engaging residents in environmental stewardship and health education while supporting public lands.

Role includes extensive local travel, weekend opportunities, and a living stipend through AmeriCorps. Housing discounts are available, and training in field certifications is offered where eligible.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Must pass a background check with fingerprinting.
• For Full-Time Service, must commit to extensive local/regional travel across Illinois (Chicagoland).

Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9a-5p (Availability on the Weekends, some flexible assignments)

Salary: $25000 Living Stipend (Around $14.75 Hour)

About AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers serve directly with nonprofit organizations to tackle our nation’s most pressing challenges.

Hosted by NeighborScapes NFP, seven full-time AmeriCorps members will compose a "Harvey Conservation Corps" who will help catalyze revitalizing green spaces in and around the southern Chicago suburb of Harvey, Illinois.

Summary

The AmeriCorps members will take responsibility for supporting community gardens, urban farms and healthy green streetscapes; creating and maintaining trails in nearby parks and forest preserves; helping residents with both environmental stewardship and health education around nature, connecting Harvey students with nature; and maintaining and improving public lands.

• Clearing Invasive Plant species in Parks / Forest Preserve
• Creating /maintaining nature trails in public lands around the South Suburbs
• Working in urban farms and community gardens

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for FEMA Corps and Forest Corps), or a Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S.
• Must pass a background check upon arrival to the program. This will include fingerprinting
• For Full-Time Service, an individual must be available for full-time service consisting of extensive local/regional travel and additional service events around the State of Illinois (specifically Chicagoland).
