Primary Responsibilities

This role involves working closely with the Nebraska/Iowa Water Business Group Manager, Regional Business Development Leaders, and Sector Leads. The responsibilities include identifying, developing, and managing client relationships across water sectors such as Drinking Water, Wastewater, Federal Water, and Water Resource Management in Nebraska and Iowa. Key duties are maintaining existing clients, establishing new client relationships, developing market networks, forecasting project pursuits, leading proposal efforts, conducting market analysis, and strategic planning. The candidate should possess excellent writing, presentation, and speaking skills.

Specific duties and responsibilities:
  1. Identify and qualify leads to meet annual Net Fee Booked (NFB) goals.
  2. Achieve area and sector NFB goals.
  3. Manage business development and marketing budgets.
  4. Utilize client relationship management and financial systems for reporting.
  5. Stay informed about market trends affecting clients.
  6. Develop strategic plans and growth initiatives.
  7. Implement growth initiatives per strategic plans.
  8. Manage assigned client accounts and develop long-term client strategies.
  9. Build business relationships with partners.
  10. Follow HDR's go/no-go process for project pursuits.
  11. Lead pursuit teams, develop proposals, and participate in quality reviews.
  12. Coach teams for effective presentations and debriefs.
  13. Recognize successes and milestones.
  14. Manage content marketing campaigns to enhance brand visibility.
  15. Supervise business development and marketing staff as assigned.
  16. Identify and mentor potential management and technical staff.
  17. Gather and act on client feedback.
  18. Apply HDR's risk management approach in pursuits.
  19. Participate in professional associations to elevate HDR's market presence.
  20. Articulate HDR's capabilities and competitive advantages.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • Professional registration or relevant technical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in program development, pursuit management, and client relations in water consulting.
  • Proven success in business development within the industry.
  • Existing client network in Nebraska and Iowa is advantageous.
  • Experience managing diverse teams.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight trips.
  • Commitment to HDR's values of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Engagement in HDR's employee-owned culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Self-starter with a track record of independent project completion.
  • Deep knowledge of procurement processes in the A/E/C industry.

  • Experience in sales and strategic win planning.
  • Financial and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
