Qualifications

  • Biology or Chemistry bachelor’s degree with related lab experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reagents and perform moderate and high complexity testing per SOPs.
  • Complete all required documentation and electronic records accurately.
  • Pull and process samples for repeat reactive and confirmatory testing.
  • Review results and update systems in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Perform client sample accessioning as assigned.
  • Monitor inventory levels of reagents and supplies.
  • Communicate shortages or issues to the NDTS team promptly.
  • Document equipment issues and contact technical support when needed.

Under supervision, this position performs viral and non-viral testing on volunteer blood donor samples to determine eligibility in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational requirements. The role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant testing results that support the safety of the blood supply.

This position involves interaction with internal and external customers and requires sound judgment, professionalism, diplomacy, and effective communication skills

In this role, you will:
Testing
  • Prepare reagents and perform moderate and high complexity testing in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Complete all required documentation, forms, and electronic records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Pull and process samples for repeat reactive and confirmatory testing as required.
  • Review test results, ensure accuracy, and appropriately update, commit, and/or transmit results in laboratory systems.
  • Perform client sample accessioning as assigned.
  • Monitor inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and consumables.
  • Communicate reagent shortages, expirations, or supply issues to the NDTS team and Materials Management in a timely manner.
  • Communicate problems, delays, or testing issues to internal teams and external clients in a professional and timely manner.
  • Contact technical support for equipment malfunctions and accurately document issues in the Equipment Problem/Repair Log.
Quality & Compliance
  • Prepare reagents and perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality control procedures in accordance with SOPs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and quality control on laboratory instruments as required.
  • Support monitoring of reagent and supply inventory and ensure appropriate documentation and reporting to NDTS and Materials Management.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities, including review of QC documentation, competency assessments, and related evaluations.
  • Perform assigned special quality tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Ensure adherence to all laboratory safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, and safe work practices.
Staff Development
  • Support onboarding and training of new staff by providing guidance, assistance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in supporting timely completion of departmental deliverables as assigned.
  • Promote and adhere to a safe working environment by following all laboratory safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows safety procedures including proper use of personal protective equipment, proper use of engineering controls, and performance of safe work practices as stated in the safety manual
We need someone who has:
Education
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university (or completion of 60 semester hours of laboratory coursework) and completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program, OR
  • Associate’s degree (or 60 semester hours of laboratory coursework) and completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory technology training program, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline that meets CLIA requirements for moderate and high complexity testing, combined with relevant laboratory experience.
We prefer:
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or laboratory environment performing job-related or similar duties is required.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience in donor testing, infectious disease testing, or high-complexity laboratory environments preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility
