Job summary

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is seeking a Donor Health & Safety Specialist to advance donor safety and wellness. You will analyze donor events, develop training, and partner with Medical Services to implement data-driven improvements.

The role includes field observation at fixed and mobile collection sites, program leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to promote safety standards and best practices. Travel to various collections sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in biology, public health, health education or related field.
• Experience in health education, clinical support, public health or safety program development.
• Strong analytical skills with data interpretation and trend analysis.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

The Donor Health & Safety Specialist plays a critical role in advancing donor safety and wellness by identifying, analyzing, and addressing donor reactions and injury trends. This role partners across Medical Services and field operations to translate data insights into targeted education, training, and process improvements. Through field observation, program design, and community engagement, the specialist strengthens a culture of donor safety and continuous improvement. The role also supports directed donor and donor wellness initiatives to ensure alignment with clinical standards and best practices.

Essential Responsibilities

Donor Health & Safety Monitoring and Insights: 30%

• Leads the analysis of trends, risk factors, and predictors of adverse donor events
• Conduct statistical and gap analyses to identify improvement opportunities
• Translate findings into actionable recommendations to enhance safety outcomes
• Review and document donor reactions and injuries reported by collections staff
• Manage donor safety workflow processes through handoffs to completion
• Partner with Medical Services to facilitate appropriate donor care, when necessary.
• Evaluates donor wellness testing results and implications for community and community outreach.
• Partner with the medical director to establish approach for repeat wellness cycles and testing based upon ongoing results.

Education, Training, Communication & Behavior Change: 25%

• Design and deliver targeted training programs focused on donor safety and injury prevention at high leverage points.
• Design and integrates educational materials into existing delivery mechanisms including orientation, collections training, driver chair preparation, donor recruitment strategies.
• Establishes best practices for donor safety communication including integration into core work and processes.
• Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, assessments, and incident trends
• Adjust programs to drive measurable improvement in donor safety outcomes

Field Observation & Culture Assessment: 15%

• Travel to fixed and mobile collection sites to observe practices and behaviors
• Assess safety culture, adherence to standards, and staff engagement
• Provide real-time coaching and recommendations to improve safety practices

Donor Health & Safety Program Leadership: 20%

• Develop priorities and programs that promote donor health & safety activities and awareness

• Partners with Medical Services, Quality, and Operations to translate data and improvement items in actionable plans.
• With Medical Director, manage a network of care facilities that support donor safety.
• Partner with Risk management to support donor claims.
• Participate in industry collaboratives around donor health & safety, performance improvement and education practices.

Other Duties as Assigned: 10%

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, public health, health education, or related field

Experience

• Experience in health education, clinical support, public health or safety program development
• Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting data and trends
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training or educational programs
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Certifications / Licenses

• Valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or similar credential
• Previous experience working in public health or related sector
• Experience in donor services, healthcare, or regulated clinical environments
• Experience with data analysis tools and statistical methods
• Experience working in field-based or mobile operations environments
