Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard, INC. in Norfolk, VA is seeking an experienced NDT Level III to manage and advance welding, brazing, and NDT programs for government and commercial customers.

The role combines technical oversight with team leadership in a working-management capacity onsite in Norfolk, with potential travel. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in welding/weld quality, NDT program leadership, and Level III certification, plus the ability to recertify NDTs and navigate complex codes and customer

Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of collective experience in progressive roles supporting welding, weld quality, or related positions in ship repair/industrial fabrication.
• Knowledge of standard welding codes and requirements (Tech-Pub 248, ABS Rules, ASME, AWS D1.1/D1.5).
• Minimum 2 years of experience performing/overseeing NDT inspections/program.
• Must attain Level III certification in NDT disciplines they oversee.
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW).
• Ability to recertify NDTs for VT/MT/PT/UTT within 30 days in at least one area.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, collaboration, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office, data tools, and database management.

Responsibilities

• Assist in administration and oversight of the Weld Program and its staff across operations.
• Maintain welder qualifications/certifications in NavWeld.
• Maintain NDT inspector qualifications/certifications in NavNDT.
• Develop quality/workmanship demonstration standards and WPQ; administer qualification exams.
• Interpret and evaluate welding requirements to support bids and production teams.
• Support internal/external weld and brazing audits, inspections, and documentation.
• Create/revise Weld/Braze/PCP procedures and maintain records.
• Develop PQRs including planning, setup, and testing of materials.
• Review work packages and QA workbooks to guide welding/brazing requirements.
• Collaborate with leadership to strengthen the weld program and cross-functional relations.
