Job summary

Standard Ship Repair in San Diego, CA is seeking a skilled NDT 2 Technician to perform VT, MT, PT, and UT in an ISO 9001 environment aboard naval vessels. OSHA 10 Maritime compliance and safety are required.

Responsibilities include evaluations per instructions, documentation, and coordination with the NDT Supervisor; travel may be required, and 40+ hours weekly between 0600–1430 with potential overtime. Must work at heights, in confined spaces, and read technical docs.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
• Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
• Preferred LVL II UT and 5 years of ship repair NDT experience.
• Able to read, comprehend, and prepare technical documentation, specifications, and procedures.
• MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) are beneficial.

Salary Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt

Summary/Objective: The NDT 2 Technician is responsible for performing Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT), in an ISO 9001 environment. They must be familiar with OSHA requirements for safety and hot work onboard naval vessels.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Qualified to properly perform specific NDT processes (VT, MT & PT) and specific evaluations for acceptance or rejection determinations according to written instructions and to record results.
• Perform work scope review, procedural reviews, and documentation required and preparations of equipment and/or supplies needed.

Education / Experience Required

• Must be 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid California driver's license.
• Must possess basic skills (reading, writing, and mathematical skills).

Preferred

• A plus, 5 years of experience in a ship repair NDT environment.
• LVL II Ultrasonic Testing (UT), qualified.
• Able to read, comprehend, and prepare technical documentation, specifications, and procedures.
• MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) computer skills.
• Understand the Naval Ship Repair requirements and working environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position that requires 40+ hours of work per week. M-F 0600 – 1430 (or as otherwise assigned by NDT Supervisor) with pre-scheduled overtime as needed.

Work Environment: This job operates in an office and also a shipyard work environment.

Travel: Travel may be required for project needs.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be available to work at heights, confined spaces and have the ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes. May involve carrying objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching, and walking.
