Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking an experienced NDE professional to lead UT/PAUT inspections and qualification plans for the Terran program. You will partner with NDE engineers and inspectors to ensure high integrity across parts and assemblies using both established and advanced methods.

You will mentor team members, manage technical tasks, and collaborate with internal and external partners to optimize inspection systems while ensuring compliance with aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• NDE Level II or III in Ultrasonics (UTSW & PAUT) required.
• Total NDE experience of 10+ years, with 6+ in aerospace or regulated industries.
• Willingness to travel 10–25% as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies and POD trials with NDE Engineers and UT/PAUT Inspectors.
• Develop, document, and publish PAUT inspection techniques for diverse parts.
• Perform UT/PAUT inspections with established and advanced methods.
• Serve as the SME and POC for UT/PAUT inspections.
• Collaborate to design and optimize automated inspection systems.
• Mentor Specialists and Inspectors and guide their development.
• Conduct internal audits and act as technical POC for external audits.
• Manage technical tasks and oversee project segments independently.

About The Team

The Relativity Space NDE Team is dedicated to the integrity of our product while tackling the challenges of our novel manufacturing methods. We are tasked with developing and executing inspection of a huge variety of materials and components using cutting-edge industry technology. From crafting in-house processes and procedures that adhere to industry standards, to executing inspection operations, our team maintains a steadfast commitment to accuracy and reliability.

About The Role

• Lead feasibility studies, probability of detection (POD) trials, and qualification plans in partnership with NDE Engineers and UT/PAUT Inspectors.
• Develop, document, and publish part-specific PAUT inspection techniques for a wide range of parts and assemblies.
• Perform UT/PAUT inspections using established and advanced methods, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
• Serve as the primary subject-matter expert and point of contact for UT/PAUT inspection development.
• Support the team to help facilitate inspections outside of your primary method(s), i.e. RT, ET, ECA, etc
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design, implement, and optimize automated inspection systems.
• Mentor other Specialists and Inspectors, guiding their development.
• Conduct internal audits and act as technical POC for external audits
• Manage technical tasks and oversee project segments, working independently with minimal supervision
• Partner with vendors to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve inspection equipment and supporting technologies.
• Evaluate PAUT datasets to determine inspection quality and apply accept/reject criteria.
• Generate detailed, accurate documentation and formal reports of inspection results and analysis.
• Communicate inspection findings and future opportunities to cross-functional stakeholders and external partners
• Apply a deep understanding of NDE inspection plans, procedures, and techniques to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality requirements.

About You

• Current NDE Level II or III Certification in Ultrasonics (UTSW & PAUT)
• Minimum of 10 years total experience in NDE; 6 of which shall be in a commercial aerospace manufacturing setting or other heavily regulated industry (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear)
• Experience/ Substantial input in multiple projects of medium to high complexity
• Open to travel (10% - 25%)

Nice To Haves But Not Required

• ASNT NDE Level 3 Certification in UT
• NDE Level 2 Certification in ultrasonics Eddy Current (ET, ECA), dye penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), visual inspection (VT,CWI),
• Familiarity with basic concepts of Radiographic Testing (RT)
• Radiation Safety training
• Experience with inspection of additively manufactured materials
• Experience inspecting various materials and geometries
• Knowledge of industry standards (NASA, AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, etc.)
• Experience with qualification of NDE inspection techniques/procedures in one or more volumetric methods
• Experience with CAD
• Experience Auditing 3rd Party NDE Vendors
• Experience with QA/QC and/or Lean Manufacturing concepts and applications.

Successful candidates must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at our government partner location in Stennis, Mississippi.
