Overview

Experience Qualifications: Construction work experience with a basic understanding of construction methods and activities similar to those of the assigned project. Experience may include federal, municipal, transportation, ports, or marina projects.

Responsibilities

Main Duties:

  • Inspect and ensure quality of roadway and structure construction projects according to plans, contracts, and specifications.
  • Perform work of varying difficulty levels.
  • Verify that construction meets contractual and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct materials testing and basic surveying to verify line, grade, and dimensions.
  • Communicate professionally with stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed project records, including daily diaries, photos, and inspection reports.
  • Assist in training and oversight of trainees.
  • Ensure safety standards in work zones and traffic setups.
  • Utilize electronic project management software for documentation.
  • Verify materials and perform roadway tests to meet specifications.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public and stakeholders.
  • Complete administrative tasks like timesheets and expense reports.
Qualifications

Education/Knowledge: High school diploma or GED, OSHA certification (or obtain within 3 months), basic mathematics skills, relevant training or experience in construction or civil engineering, knowledge of construction materials and methods.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform inspections, utilize computers and software, read plans and specifications, apply mathematical and engineering principles, communicate effectively, use surveying tools, and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Valid driver’s license required, with ability to travel.

Guidance and Responsibility

Work is assigned by engineers and supervisors, with increasing independence as skills develop.
