Job description

The Team Cook (Line Cook) position is responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking Nehemiah Coffee Company (NCC) recipes to ensure the highest quality service and experience for customers. The Team Cook is under the supervision of the NCC Kitchen Manager and works as an essential part of the NCC team. In addition, the Team Cook is responsible for maintaining a clean kitchen space, assisting in the cleanliness of the overall coffee shop, and able to maintain accurate communication with the Kitchen Manager regarding needed supplies, inventory, and back of house duties. This position requires enthusiasm in a fast-paced environment and precise flavor and presentation of our NCC recipes.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company policies as outlined by the company
  • Maintain a positive attendance record by reporting to work for assigned shifts at the scheduled time
  • Meet all uniform, appearance, and grooming standards as specified by the company
  • Follow all sanitation and safety standards set forth by the company
  • Follow the receiving and storage standard procedures
  • Determine par levels for daily needs, and accurately prepare and communicate the prep list
  • Clearly communicate orders / needs to station cooks (fry, salad, prep, etc.)
  • Prepare and verify that all menu items are prepared according to NCC company quality standards 100% of the time
  • Complete meals to all guests following speed of service standards
  • Perform assigned opening, side work and / or closing duties satisfactorily
  • Follow all end-of-shift checkout procedures as outlined by the company
  • Maintain a good team environment by assisting other team members with their station and side work duties when there is a need and / or when available

Technical Skills Unique to the Job

  • Food preparation skills including but not limited to knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing and operating kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including but not limited to safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and food must be prepared
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people, such as baristas, kitchen trainees, management and sometimes customers.
  • Must be able to perform simple math calculations and understand units and measures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft365

Qualifications

  • Previous experience cooking in the foodservice industry required
  • Knowledge and proficiency in various cooking methods a plus
  • Food handling license is required
  • High School or general equivalent degree (GED) required

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift objects of up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to maintain a safe work area in an environment where open flames and sharp objects can pose safety hazards if not handled properly.
  • Must have the ability to lift, stoop, and bend.
  • Must exhibit hand coordination and dexterity for rapid productions.

Work Environment : The noise level in the kitchen environment is usually moderate.
