Job summary

VTC Enterprises is seeking a Naval Base Ventura County Grounds Worker to perform a range of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks at various base locations.

You will operate hand and power tools, prune trees and shrubs, maintain turf, and assist with base contracts while adhering to safety and quality standards. A valid driver’s license is required; shifts are 7:00am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• No minimum education required.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance tools; proficient use of backpack blower, hedge trimmer and line trimmer.
• Able to read and follow written or oral instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Complete grounds maintenance as per base contract.
• Operate hand and power tools safely.
• Prune trees up to 6 feet high and trim shrubs and hedges.
• Edge walks and beds; maintain turf, dethatch, aerate and fertilize.

Job description

DETAILS OF POSITION

Location: Naval Base Ventura County / Full-time: Monday - Friday / Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm / Starting Rate: $18.59 per hour

PURPOSE OF POSITION

In this position, the Naval Base Ventra County (NBVC) Grounds Worker is responsible for a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work at areas throughout the assigned military base.

Essential Functions andResponsibilities

• Complete grounds maintenance requirements as specified in the government base contract.
• Perform routine cleaning, preventative maintenance and minor repair tasks on tools and equipment as required.
• Operate hand tools and power tools commonly utilized in grounds maintenance operations safely.
• Perform plant bed maintenance which includes fertilizing, weeding, mulching and policing.
• Prune trees up to 6 feet in height from ground level and including cleanup and debris removal.
• Prune shrubs, hedges and vines including cleanup and debris removal.
• Trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls including cleanup and debris removal.
• Turf rejuvenation to include dethatching, aerating, seeding and fertilizing. Safely operate riding lawn mowers to maintain grounds in a manner that meets or exceed government quality specifications.

Qualifications

• No minimum education requirements.
• Knowledge of Grounds Maintenance Tools;Must demonstrate the proficient use of the following tools: backpack blower, hedge trimmer and line trimmer.
• Ability to remember and follow verbal directions.
• Able to understand written or oral equipment operation procedures.
• Able to read and interpret written or oral equipment operation procedures in English.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and management; Ability to work as part of a team.
• Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands.
• Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with an insurable record.
• An insured vehicle available for use during employment.
• Must be willing and able to work up to 8 hours per shift.
• Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
