Job summary

Life Cycle Engineering in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Technician to provide in‑service engineering, testing, software upgrades, and fleet training for CVN 68 and 78 class aircraft carriers.

You will serve as the technical link to NSWCPD, maintaining propulsion and electrical generation, as well as damage control systems, while delivering fleet technical support, PLC troubleshooting, shipboard testing, software deployments, and naval crew training.

Qualifications

• Five years minimum hands‑on experience operating and maintaining MCS field devices.
• Practical experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs.
• Working knowledge of core ethernet switches and Hirschmann Industrial Ethernet Switches; ability to test fiber connections.
• Active CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain one.
• High school diploma or equivalent; formal military technical training highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Fleet Technical Support: Deliver CVN MCS Fleet Technical Support to shipboard operators and leadership.
• Automation & Controls: Modify, implement, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs and I/O devices embedded in shipboard systems.
• Testing & Grooms: Support development and execution of shipboard test procedures; perform MCS grooms and readiness assessments including PICOs and C5RA milestones aboard CVN 68 and 78 ships.
• Software Deployments: Execute shipboard software upgrades during shipboard alterations in alignment with SCDs.
• Training Delivery: Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) and MCS Software Refresher Training to naval crew.
• Lifecycle Logistics: Update CVN 68/78 MCS ILS docs, PMS documentation, and APLs; research replacement parts and assist ships in ordering.
