Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the ALRE programs EMALS and AAG for naval aviation on Ford-class carriers. The role involves design, development, testing, troubleshooting and ongoing support of high-performance mechanical systems on ships and at test sites.

Candidates must be local to Lakehurst, NJ, be a US citizen eligible for a DoD Secret clearance, and travel up to 20–30% (including international travel). Onsite work at naval facilities is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of experience; Masters and 3+ years or PhD and 0 years

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, develop, analyze, and optimize complex mechanical systems for AAG/EMALS.
• Develop and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications using CAD software (e.g., CREO Parametric or AutoCAD).
• Perform detailed mechanical calculations including stress analysis, thermal/fluid analysis, and bolted joint analysis.
• Troubleshoot mechanical systems including hydraulic systems, generators, and large motors and provide repair recommendations.
• Conduct engineering investigations including failure analysis and root cause assessments; present solutions to stakeholders.
• Lead design projects and ensure proper interfacing with the system and adherence to quality standards.
• Execute testing, validation, and troubleshooting procedures at various sites and aboard ships.
• Develop and review maintenance procedures and provide technical recommendations to improve system performance and safety.
• Respond to emergency calls with hands-on shipboard support for troubleshooting and testing in high-pressure environments.
