Job summary

St. Johns Ship Building seeks a Naval Architect to provide design, analysis, and production support for steel and aluminum vessels. You will translate customer specifications and regulations into buildable designs that meet cost, schedule, and quality goals.

Daily work includes creating and reviewing vessel drawings, performing stability analyses, hydrostatics, and weight calculations, and coordinating with management, production, and supply chain to ensure smooth delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture required.
• Experience in shipyard or marine design office with steel/aluminum vessels preferred.
• Proficiency with ABS, USCG, SOLAS regulations and related standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review vessel design documentation including general arrangements, structural models, foundations, stability analyses, weight estimates, and systems layouts.
• Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Support production by generating construction drawings and resolving shop-floor engineering issues.
• Perform hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and stability calculations; support inclining experiments and trials.
• Review vendor data and coordinate integration of equipment and systems.
• Participate in design reviews and production readiness reviews.
• Provide engineering input for proposals, cost estimates, and clarifications for new contracts.
• Collaborate across structural, mechanical, and electrical teams to optimize performance and producibility.

The Naval Architect will provide technical expertise in the design, analysis, and production support of steel and aluminum vessels built at St. Johns Ship Building. This role involves translating customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and shipyard production capabilities into efficient, buildable designs that support cost, schedule, and quality goals.
