Natural Resources Recreation Specialist (Temporary)

Join to apply for the Natural Resources Recreation Specialist (Temporary) role at Mecklenburg County.

This position is based at Latta Nature Preserve and involves assisting with nature preserve operations, habitat restoration, natural resource management, and monitoring activities. Responsibilities include invasive species removal, controlled burns, boundary marking, and management hunts. The role may require working nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or related field.
  • Experience: No experience required; relevant experience and education combined accepted.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid North or South Carolina Driver’s License; ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid certifications within one year.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate programs in a park or nature preserve.
  • Provide customer service, handle inquiries, and manage program registrations.
  • Ensure safety and enforce rules within the preserve.
  • Assist in maintenance and supervise patrons if needed.
  • Handle departmental events and may serve as manager on duty.
