Job summary

The Soil and Water Conservation Commission is seeking a full-time Natural Resource Conservationist to work with farmers, landowners, and communities in Twin Falls, Idaho, to develop and implement conservation plans protecting soil, water, and wildlife habitats.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Good knowledge of Natural Resource Conservation Practices, Resource Plan Development and Implementation
  • 15+ hours of college coursework in conservation management or at least 6 months of relevant work experience
  • 6 months farm management experience or relevant agricultural work experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or equivalent tools (6+ months)

Responsibilities

  • Natural Resource Planning: Identify natural resource challenges with farmers and landowners; design conservation programs; obtain funding options; create implementation plans; provide on-site technical assistance; monitor progress and revise plans as needed.
  • Communication and Outreach: Collaborate with farmers, conservation districts, and agencies; share project progress; prepare news articles and reports highlighting conservation initiatives.

Hourly Rate

$25.51 per hour

Key Responsibilities
Natural Resource Planning:
  • Work with farmers and landowners to identify natural resource challenges and create practical solutions.
  • Design conservation programs to improve soil, water and wildlife habitats.
  • Find Funding options for projects and track their progress.
  • Create implementation plans, monitor progress, and prepare reports.
  • Provide on-site technical assistance for conservation plan execution.
  • Review and revise plans as needed, ensuring alignment with goals and contracts.
  • Conduct site evaluations, layout work, and verify completed practices for certification.
Communication and Outreach:
  • Collaborate with farmers, soil conservation districts, and agencies to address natural resource concerns.
  • Engage with the public to share project progress and updates.
  • Prepare news articles and reports to highlight conservation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Good knowledge of:

Typically gained by 15+ hours of relevant coursework in agriculture, 6 months farm management experience, or 6 months of relevant agricultural work experience which may include working on a farm or ranch.

  • Natural Resource Conservation Practices, Resource Plan Development and Implementation

Typically gained by 15+ hours of college coursework in conservation management or at least 6 months of relevant work experience.

  • Agronomy, Biology, Range Management, Silviculture, Animal Management, Natural Resource Management, Soils and Soil Conservation Principles, and/or Fisheries

Typically gained by 30+ hours of college coursework or 3 years of field experience in resource conservation.

  • Experience developing reports and presentations

Typically gained by at least 6 months of experience researching, compiling, and presenting information in professional settings.

  • Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or equivalent tools to perform financial functions (6+ months of experience)

Typically gained by at least 6 months of experience working with sensitive or restricted data.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for 2-4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and work on uneven terrain.
  • Comfortable working in adverse or inclement weather.
  • Fieldwork may involve proximity to drilling rigs, backhoes, and other heavy equipment.
