The VA Boston Healthcare System seeks a Natural Language Processing Data Scientist to lead information extraction from unstructured clinical text, develop NLP pipelines, and support research and clinical decision making.

You will collaborate with clinicians, oversee validated NLP datasets with Label Studio, and implement end-to-end data and algorithm pipelines while staying current with NLP/ML advances.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required; candidate must clear a U.S. government background check.
• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or a directly related field.
• Alternatively, a combination: 30 semester hours plus additional relevant education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of advanced information extraction and analysis within a healthcare setting, applying Python based NLP methods.
• Oversee creation and governance of validated NLP datasets using Label Studio, ensuring high data quality across the project lifecycle.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize end to end data and algorithm pipelines, following data science lifecycle best practices.
• Improve NLP and data science infrastructure by creating reusable code and resources for researchers, engineers, and clinicians.
• Collaborate with clinicians and data teams to guide research initiatives, offering expert NLP insights to meet complex clinical needs.
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently, monitoring progress and delivering milestones on schedule.
• Communicate findings through written reports, presentations, and manuscripts tailored to technical and non technical audiences.
• Stay current with developments in NLP, ML, and data science and apply best practices to raise the impact of research and analytics activities.
