Job description

Senior Data Scientist, NLP

Overview

This role sits at the forefront of applying advanced natural language processing and machine learning to complex, high-impact healthcare data. You will work on building intelligent systems capable of understanding unstructured medical and administrative documents at scale, extracting meaning, structure, and intent from highly variable inputs. The position blends applied research, production-grade model development, and product-driven thinking in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to turn messy, real-world healthcare data into reliable, scalable AI solutions. Your work will directly influence how critical healthcare information is processed, interpreted, and used across the industry. This is a highly technical role where experimentation, autonomy, and measurable business impact are central.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and improve NLP and machine learning models for document understanding, including entity extraction, intent detection, and structure recognition.
  • Work with large-scale unstructured healthcare datasets to extract meaningful signals from complex medical and administrative records.
  • Perform error analysis, data cleaning, and iterative model optimization to improve accuracy and robustness.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into production pipelines and scalable AI systems.
  • Define evaluation metrics aligned with business objectives and monitor model performance over time.
  • Build and enhance long-term learning systems such as active learning and continuous learning frameworks.
  • Contribute to product roadmap discussions by translating technical insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct research and apply state-of-the-art NLP techniques, including transformer-based and LLM-based approaches.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of professional experience in data science or machine learning, with a strong focus on NLP applications.
  • Expert-level Python programming skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with modern NLP architectures such as transformers and large language models.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and data manipulation tools such as NumPy and Pandas.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch (preferred) or TensorFlow.
  • Proven track record of deploying ML models into production environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with strong ownership mindset.
  • Experience influencing product or business KPIs through machine learning solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Preferred: experience with healthcare data, document layout analysis, Spark/PySpark, and Databricks.
Benefits
  • Competitive total cash compensation estimated between $184,000 and $200,000 USD.
  • Performance-based compensation aligned with industry-leading healthcare AI innovation.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plans and additional financial well-being support.
  • Remote-friendly and highly collaborative work environment.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact healthcare AI systems.
  • Strong focus on research, innovation, and continuous learning.
