Job description

Overview

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.

Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’re not limited to a single working arrangement; we offer work‑from‑home, hybrid, or in‑office options. We prioritise deepening social connections and shared experiences, meeting as a team at our Team Week events four times a year and at our Hub locations in the SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, Denver, Austin, Calgary and Toronto.

We are looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in‑person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

As part of Intersect’s Market Risk team, you’ll shape how we identify, measure, and manage market risk across our natural gas portfolio. The role combines deep market expertise with technical leadership, driving the development of risk analytics, valuation tools, and reporting frameworks that support trading, planning and investment decisions.

Working closely with Origination, Trading, Operations and executive leadership, you’ll provide critical insights into physical and financial natural gas positions while strengthening systems and processes that enable informed decision‑making. You’ll also deliver transparent, accurate risk reporting to internal stakeholders and investors.

Team Overview

The Market Risk team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by providing independent risk oversight and market intelligence across the company’s portfolio. The team measures, monitors and reports market risks throughout the asset development, construction and operation lifecycle as well as across commercial positions.

Partnering closely with Front Office, Back Office, Finance and Operations, Market Risk develops analytics, valuations and reporting frameworks that support responsible growth. Joining this team offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of markets, technology and strategy while shaping the future of Intersect’s risk management capabilities.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the technical analysis and quantification of market risks across physical and financial natural gas commodity and transportation positions.
  • Develop and enhance risk models that provide actionable insights into portfolio exposures and market movements.
  • Analyze and explain risk drivers, valuation changes and market impacts to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on natural gas market dynamics, transportation markets, pipeline tariffs and trading activities.
  • Design, develop and maintain advanced risk analytics tools using Python, SQL and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Create scalable applications and automated processes that improve risk measurement, reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities for enhanced data management, analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Business Intelligence reporting that supports timely, accurate and compliant risk reporting.
  • Produce risk reports and analyses for executive leadership, investors and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure data integrity and reporting consistency across risk management processes and systems.
  • Monitor portfolio risk exposures and support adherence to established risk policies and controls.
  • Maintain documentation, processes and reporting standards that support effective risk oversight.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Intersect’s market risk framework and governance practices.
  • Maintain natural gas forward curves used for trading, valuation, planning and risk analysis activities.
  • Ensure market data quality and accuracy across valuation and risk management systems.
  • Support mark‑to‑market valuation processes and broader portfolio analytics initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of direct experience working in Southwest natural gas markets.
  • Demonstrated experience performing quantitative analysis within energy markets.
  • Strong expertise in Python and SQL for analytics, modeling, automation and application development.
  • Experience developing risk analytics, valuation models or market reporting solutions.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative finance concepts, including VaR, MTM valuation methodologies and other market risk metrics.
  • Working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools and reporting platforms.
  • Experience working with cloud‑based technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform.
  • Deep knowledge of natural gas market fundamentals, transportation markets, pipeline tariffs and trading dynamics.
  • Ability to translate complex market and risk concepts into clear insights for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
