Job summary

City of Deming is hiring a Natural Gas Operator in the Public Works Department. The role requires operating gas equipment, meters, and regulator stations, with responsibilities including monitoring mercaptan levels and ensuring safety compliance.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and 5–7 years of related experience, plus the ability to pass pre-employment screenings and certifications. Applicants should have NM driver’s license and willingness to travel for training.

Qualifications

• HSD or GED with five to seven years of related experience and/or training.
• Working knowledge of natural gas systems and installation practices.
• Ability to operate natural gas and construction equipment safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain natural gas equipment and meters in the city system.
• Regulate low- and high-pressure gas regulator stations and monitor mercaptan levels.
• Install and replace meters and meter faces; troubleshoot issues as directed.
• Attend required training and NMPRC/PHMSA operator qualification sessions.
