Job summary

The National WWII Museum in New Orleans seeks an Assistant Director of Teacher Programs to lead teacher professional development and curriculum initiatives aligned with our 2025-2035 plan. This role manages a team of educators delivering standards-aligned content across social studies and disciplines, expanding onsite, offsite, and online programs for educators nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred in K-12 education, history, museum education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing a team.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working with elementary and/or secondary school students and teachers in a museum, school, or other educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing classroom curricula and professional development experiences. Familiarity with state-level and national standards across disciplines is preferred.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime during special events, heavy programmatic or visitation periods, or to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of educators delivering curriculum and professional development.
  • Develop and execute a strategy for classroom curriculum and content creation, as well as related educator professional development.
  • Lead the team in curriculum design and the presentation of teacher professional development programs.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the Museum’s onsite professional development initiatives, including annual intensive summer programs, workshops, and events.
  • Collaborate with Education Department and leadership to define K-12 priorities and ensure quality, accessibility and distribution of curriculum.
