The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney, or Senior Counsel in the National Security Project of the ACLU's National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role with in-office requirements of two days per week or eight days per month.

This is a two-year term-limited position. The National Security Project fights for civil liberties and racial justice, using litigation, advocacy and public education to check government power and protect

Qualificações

• J.D. degree from a U.S. law school and NY Bar membership required.
• At least two years of complex civil litigation in federal courts.
• Familiarity with constitutional, national security, civil liberties and racial justice issues preferred.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Ability to engage in complex legal analysis and fact investigation in impact litigation and policy advocacy settings.
• Clear and persuasive communication of legal concepts in writing and speaking.
• Project management and organizational skills; ability to work independently and manage priorities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Responsabilidades

• Conduct strategic impact litigation and advocacy on priority issues.
• Perform legal research, develop facts, draft pleadings and briefs.
• Assist with discovery, motion practice, and oral arguments.
• Identify and develop new litigation and advocacy projects.
• Analyze legislation for potential litigation.
• Collaborate with staff across the organization and with affiliates.
• Engage in public speaking and media appearances.
• Travel for litigation, conferences, and strategy development.
