Job summary

ACLU-DC is seeking a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney in a hybrid role based in Washington, DC. You will work under the Legal Director, lead or co-lead civil liberties cases, supervise junior staff, and collaborate across departments to advance advocacy priorities.

Applicants should have a J.D., DC Bar admission, 5–10 years of full-time legal experience including civil litigation, and a demonstrated commitment to civil rights.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school is required.
• Membership in the D.C. Bar, or ability to obtain membership by passing the next D.C. Bar examination.
• 5–10 years of experience as a full-time attorney (including fellowships and clerkships).
• At least 3 years of civil litigation experience in federal, state, or territorial courts.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, develop, and litigate civil liberties and civil rights cases in D.C. and federal court.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings; conduct factual and legal research.
• Represent the organization in public advocacy, media engagements, and community outreach.
• Supervise, mentor, and support junior attorneys and law students.
