Reach Out and Read seeks a Director of Public Relations to shape how the organization tells its story to the nation. Remote nationwide role guiding editorial and earned media, overseeing a PR firm, and collaborating with leadership, Affiliates, and clinicians.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with a strong media background, able to translate complex health and policy topics into clear messaging, and to lead a remote External Affairs team.

Qualifications

• Exceptional writing and editing skills demonstrated by a portfolio.
• Deep experience engaging reporters and managing PR firm relationships.
• Ability to translate complex topics into accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
• Strong project leadership and ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary editor for External Affairs content across channels, upholding brand voice and consistency.
• Write messaging, talking points, and thought-leadership content for high-priority initiatives.
• Coach writers and editors and refine editorial workflows and governance.
• Lead the day-to-day relationship with the PR firm and set strategy for earned media.
• Develop briefing materials and guide rapid-response communications in high-stakes situations.
• Partner with Affiliates and clinicians to extend national coverage and thought leadership.
• Collaborate with marketing and design to align editorial with brand campaigns.
