National Major Gifts Officer

New York, NY / External Office – National Development / Full-Time / Hybrid

iMentor is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to serve as a front-line fundraiser to lead efforts to systematically target, cultivate and solicit prospects and individual donors at the five and six-figure level. The role will join our six-person National Development Team (headquartered in New York City) and will become a key player in expanding our individual giving revenue stream. This position will report into the Managing Director of Development. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for implementing the National Development team’s annual plan around individual giving, while supporting the behind-the-scenes activities required to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high net worth philanthropists. The Major Gifts Officer will build a portfolio of people with capacity to give $10K+ gifts that will contribute to our goal of raising $2.5M from individual supporters. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with extensive donor-centered fundraising experience, a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners, and a deep belief in iMentor’s mission. The candidate must be entrepreneurial and an enthusiastic contributor in implementing the vision, strategy, and direction of the individual revenue stream.

Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a personal portfolio of approximately 50-100 major donors with an emphasis on multi-year commitments.
  • Identify new prospects by conducting research with iMentor prospecting tools and in partnership with prospecting consultant to contribute to sustainable individual giving.
  • Serve as a primary strategist and central relationship manager of donors in the portfolio while systematically deepening engagement and retaining and upgrading their year-over-year support.
  • Work alongside the Managing Director of Development to support the planning of small cultivation events and the build-out of org-wide giving circles to attract and steward donors.
  • Execute on general fundraising operations and stewardship of individual donors and prospects by capturing relevant donor, prospect, and moves management information in Salesforce.
  • Travel to meet with donors as necessary, majority locally and throughout the tri-state area.
  • Leverage resources from the national development team (decks, emails, grant proposals, etc., cross-team meetings) that enable strong engagement opportunities for donors and prospects.
  • Establish a strong external and inspiring fundraising pitch that attracts new donors to support our work.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of fundraising experience
  • Experience launching, growing, and/or managing a high net-worth portfolio
  • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, persuasive, and concise thoughts
  • Strong contributor within team environments
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to work independently to hit goals and achieve success
  • Flexible and adaptive to effectively work towards new opportunities
  • Experience working in Salesforce systems a plus
  • Quick learner who demonstrates an eagerness to continually strengthen their understanding of iMentor’s work and seeks to hone communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the New York City Department of Education
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary $110,000 - $120,000 based on experience
  • Up to 100% employer funded comprehensive medical and dental coverage
  • 18 days paid annual vacation (increasing annually to 21, 23, 25), 13 paid holidays + your birthday + one floating holiday, iMentor closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day, plus 6-7 sick days annually
