Job summary

PIRG is hiring an advocate to run our national campaigns to reduce food waste. This role will develop campaigns and educate, organize and build support across the political spectrum for policies that reduce food waste and better utilize resources.

The End Food Waste Advocate will engage diverse stakeholders, organize events and outreach, and present solutions to decision-makers across state legislatures, Governors’ offices, Congress, and industry boards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Commitment to citizen-based social change and leadership track record.
• Experience with grassroots organizing and coalition building.

Responsibilities

• Coalition building: Reach out to a broad range of organizations and groups to build support.
• Organize events: Webinars, community events and public meetings for engagement.
• Advocacy: Take solutions to key decision-makers in state legislatures, Governors’ offices, Congress, and corporate boards.
• Media Outreach: Serve as spokesperson and raise the profile of our campaigns.
• Campaign strategy: Assess opportunities for political support through coalitions and messaging.
• Program development: Evaluate new research and propose political strategy.
• Fundraising: Write grant proposals and support donor relations and updates.
• Staff recruitment and development: Build and train a team and oversee staff.
