Position Summary
The National Account Manager (NAM) will be responsible for positioning the MSC solution as a strategic advantage for our customers and maximizing account penetration of the full total available market. Experience articulating business drivers, balance sheets, and total cost of ownership concepts with executives and decision makers, as well as expanding relationships with key executives and decision makers is critical. Ideal candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, strategic planning, negotiation, and listening skills. The NAM must have strong process discipline and the ability to build and execute strategic account plans by collaborating cross-functionally across the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for revenue and gross margin growth targets through maximizing penetration across assigned large accounts with annual revenue potential exceeding $2 million per year.
- Act as the liaison between assigned National Accounts customers and MSC, delivering value and new product innovation, designing and implementing solutions to achieve profitable growth and maximum account penetration. Portfolio value ranges from $10 million to $25 million.
- Build relationships at the executive level, becoming an expert in the customer’s business, industry, and trends.
- Develop internal relationships across MSC and be knowledgeable about MSC’s solutions, systems, and capabilities.
- Create and execute strategic account plans collaboratively with key teams.
- Follow MSC’s sales process and methodology, documenting in CRM.
- Negotiate and renew large enterprise contracts as assigned.
- Prepare financial models forecasting account performance over the contract lifecycle.
- Communicate financial expectations and performance updates to leadership.
- Proactively renew accounts and renegotiate contracts to address non-compliance or underperformance.
- Manage contract performance and implement corrective plans when necessary.
- Establish clear objectives for each site, track progress, and collaborate with MSC teams to meet goals.
- Coordinate with local account managers and business development teams to support customer locations.
- Align team activities with customer initiatives and MSC shareholder needs.
- Communicate strategic plans, updates, and issues to sales and service teams.
- Deliver financial sales presentations and submit proposals aligned with customer objectives.
- Conduct quarterly or as-needed business reviews with accounts.
- Ensure field support models meet customer cost reduction goals.
- Maintain relationships with field and corporate support teams to meet customer needs.
- Customize account coverage strategies to ensure revenue targets.
- Document and communicate customer service expectations and shortfalls.
- Engage with legal, supply chain, e-commerce, finance, sourcing, analytics, and project teams as needed.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, strategic planning, negotiation, and listening skills.
- Submit sales and expense reports timely and manage travel within budget.
- Participate in networking events and complete professional development as assigned.
- Promote MSC culture and support new initiatives proactively.
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in industrial, manufacturing, or distribution sales with direct account responsibility.
- Experience cultivating relationships with customer executives.
Skills
- Experience with large account sales, negotiation, and maintenance.
- Ability to interpret customer financial statements and use financial models in presentations.
- Strong relationship-building skills at the executive level.
- Excellent sales, negotiation, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, CRM systems, and e-business tools.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and overcome obstacles.
Miscellaneous
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 75%.
- Potential access to ITAR and CUI information.
Compensation starting at $84,280 - $132,440, depending on experience. The range is based on industry standards and market conditions.
