Job summary

Lakeside Behavioral Health System in Memphis seeks a Community Counselor to help create a safe, therapeutic environment and deliver direct patient care under nursing supervision. You will participate in crisis intervention and support daily living activities for patients across age groups.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Psychology or related field (or equivalent experience) and at least one year of psychiatric care experience.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field highly preferred; or high school diploma with 1 year relevant experience in the psychiatric field.
• Experience: One year related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness preferred.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management and crisis management with aggressive behaviors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu and crisis intervention.
• Assist with activities of daily living.

Since 1969, Lakeside has been the premier provider of specialized behavioral health and addictive disease services in the Memphis and Mid-South region. Job Description

The Community Counselor creates a safe environment for patients, saves lives when necessary, provides hope, empowers patients, and teaches new tools for coping to patients. The Community Counselor provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living.
