Job summary

Job description

CANEIL is an engineering and asset integrity company supporting clients throughout North America. We provide inspection, integrity management, engineering, and technical services for pipelines, facilities, and other critical infrastructure.

POSITION SUMMARY

CANEIL is seeking Canada-based NACE/AMPP Coating Inspectors for an upcoming pipeline atmospheric coating inspection program throughout the United States. Work will be concentrated primarily in the southern and central states, with regular travel required between pipeline and field inspection locations. This is a Canadian-hired position, and all field work is performed in the United States.

This is a contract position with a minimum anticipated duration of approximately 12 weeks. The expected schedule is approximately six days per week and 10 hours per day, although actual hours may vary based on client requirements, weather, inspection locations, and field conditions.

Applicants holding a current NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Program Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 certification are encouraged to apply. Candidates based in Alberta and elsewhere in Canada are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will perform atmospheric coating and corrosion condition inspections at various pipeline locations, including above-ground assets, exposed pipeline sections, and active excavation or integrity dig sites. The inspector will document conditions, collect field measurements, enter inspection information into the client’s data-management system, assign condition rankings, and assist in determining repair requirements and priorities.

WORK AUTHORIZATION AND CROSS-BORDER REQUIREMENTS

All work under this assignment is performed in the United States. CANEIL requires all applicants for this position to hold one of the following:

• Canadian citizenship together with a valid Canadian passport; or
• A pre-existing United States visa or other valid authorization to work in the United States.

For candidates who require one, CANEIL will provide and support any TN visa applications needed to perform this work, including the preparation of supporting employer documentation, project details, and letters of support. Applicants must be able to travel to and from the United States and remain in the United States for extended field rotations throughout the duration of the contract.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct atmospheric coating and corrosion inspections at pipeline locations throughout the United States
• Inspect above-ground and exposed pipeline assets, including pipeline excavation and integrity dig sites
• Perform detailed visual examinations for coating deterioration, corrosion, pitting, mechanical damage, and other relevant pipeline conditions
• Collect ultrasonic thickness measurements and pit-depth measurements where required
• Use appropriate coating and surface-preparation inspection tools to document existing conditions
• Take clear and properly referenced photographs of inspection locations, deficiencies, measurements, and surrounding conditions
• Enter inspection findings, photographs, measurements, rankings, and supporting information into the client’s electronic data-management system
• Assign inspection and condition rankings in accordance with client procedures and established assessment criteria
• Identify areas requiring additional evaluation, coating repair, corrosion mitigation, or prioritized corrective action
• Support recommendations regarding repair requirements, next steps, and repair priorities
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely inspection records and field reports
• Confirm that inspection equipment is operational, maintained, and calibrated where applicable
• Coordinate with CANEIL personnel, client representatives, field crews, contractors, and other project stakeholders
• Comply with all CANEIL, client, project, and site-specific health and safety requirements
• Wear all required personal protective equipment during inspection and field activities
• Travel regularly between inspection locations and work extended field schedules as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Current NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Program Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 certification
• Previous coating inspection experience involving pipelines, oil and gas infrastructure, or similar industrial assets
• Working knowledge of coating deterioration, atmospheric corrosion, surface preparation, coating inspection practices, and corrosion condition assessment
• Ability to identify, document, rank, and communicate coating defects, corrosion, pitting, and other integrity concerns
• Experience using common field inspection equipment, such as ultrasonic thickness gauges, pit gauges, dry-film thickness gauges, and surface-preparation inspection tools
• Ability to use a mobile phone, tablet, camera, or similar device to take photographs and enter inspection information into an electronic data-management system
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate inspection records
• Ability to work independently while following client procedures and reporting requirements
• Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driving record
• Reliable personal vehicle suitable for regular travel between inspection locations
• Willingness and ability to travel to and work extensively throughout the United States, primarily within the southern and central states, including extended stays away from home
• Ability to work approximately six days per week and 10 hours per day when required
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on uneven terrain, and around active pipeline excavations and dig sites
• Ability to wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment
• Canadian citizenship with a valid Canadian passport, or a pre-existing United States visa or other valid authorization to work in the United States
• Ability to obtain a TN visa where required and to cross the Canada-United States border for the duration of the assignment, with TN visa application support provided by CANEIL

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Two or more years of experience performing pipeline coating or atmospheric corrosion inspections
• Previous experience working at pipeline excavation or integrity dig sites
• Experience completing condition assessments, inspection rankings, and repair-priority recommendations
• Experience using client-operated electronic inspection, integrity management, or asset-management systems
• Ultrasonic thickness testing certification or documented UT inspection experience
• Familiarity with pipeline integrity management programs and corrosion-control practices
• Experience interpreting coating specifications, inspection procedures, drawings, and applicable industry standards

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

• The inspector will require access to basic coating and corrosion inspection equipment. Depending on the final contracting arrangement, the contractor may provide the required equipment, or CANEIL may provide some or all of the necessary tools.
• Typical equipment may include:
• Ultrasonic thickness gauge;
• Dry-film thickness gauge;
• Surface-preparation inspection tools and reference materials;
• Camera-enabled mobile phone or tablet;
• Other basic field inspection equipment required by the client.
• Project-specific equipment and personal protective equipment requirements will be confirmed prior to mobilization. Appropriate PPE is mandatory for all inspection and field activities.

COMPENSATION AND TRAVEL

• Hourly compensation starting at approximately C$50.00 per hour, based on NACE/AMPP certification level, directly relevant pipeline inspection experience, UT qualifications, equipment provided, and overall suitability for the assignment
• All rates are quoted in Canadian dollars and are exclusive of GST. Final rates may be adjusted at the time of contracting based on certification level, directly relevant experience, equipment provided, and the currency in which payment is made
• Minimum anticipated contract duration of approximately 12 weeks
• Approximately 60 field hours per week anticipated, subject to project requirements
• Approved mileage reimbursement provided in addition to the hourly rate
• Per diem, meal allowances, accommodations, and other approved travel expenses provided in addition to the hourly rate at the stated or agreed-upon project amounts
• Final compensation, schedule, travel arrangements, expense allowances, and equipment responsibilities will be confirmed at the time of contracting
