Job summary

Stewart Machine Company, Bainbridge GA, is seeking a skilled Coating Inspector to verify coatings on large machined or fabricated structures meet contract and specification requirements. You will inspect, document, and communicate project needs with production teams in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Day shift 7:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Reports to Plant Manager. Must hold NACE CIP II or AMPP Coating Inspector certification and have 2+ years of coating inspection experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current NACE CIP Level 2 or AMPP Coating Inspector Certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience reading and understanding drawings and specifications.
  • At least 2 years’ experience performing coating inspections on industrial movable structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb scaffolds or elevated platforms regularly.
  • Capability to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds as required.
  • Strong vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of complex coatings applied to large machined or fabricated structures, ensuring compliance with contract and specification requirements.
  • Complete daily inspections in the coatings department to verify adherence to all relevant standards and requirements.
  • Verify equipment setup, proper equipment use, surface preparation, and the correct application of coatings.
  • Document inspection results using computer-generated forms and submit daily inspection reports.
  • Communicate clearly with production personnel regarding project requirements to maintain quality standards.
  • Coordinate and interface with outside inspectors on various projects as needed.

Our manufacturing environment is dynamic and requires adherence to safety protocols. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally encounter moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions, and the presence of chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, and appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and required to ensure a safe working experience.

Physical Capabilities for Success

This role involves an active and engaging work environment. To excel, you will regularly utilize your ability to stand, walk, sit, and use your hands for handling and reaching. Occasional requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, and the ability to discern smells. You should be capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
