Job description

The incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program under the general supervision of the designated manager. The incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, design, administration, operation, and technical direction of a fitness facility and the fitness program within the Southwest Region.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. One-year supervisory experience in a fitness center.
  2. Knowledge of various strength training machines and cardiovascular fitness equipment.
  3. Ability and knowledge to perform minor repairs and maintenance of exercise equipment.
  4. Experience with exercise physiology, exercise prescription for healthy populations and individuals with physical conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, pulmonary restrictions, musculoskeletal problems, chronic back pain, pregnancy), exercise and medication interactions, electrocardiography, kinesiology, anatomy, and nutrition.
  5. Minimum of one year experience conducting graded exercise tests on stationary bikes or treadmills with an electrocardiogram (EKG), and performing assessments such as body composition, lung function, flexibility, blood cholesterol, and strength.
  6. One-year experience counseling individuals on their results and recommending fitness and lifestyle changes.
  7. Ability to identify disease-related risk factors and assist individuals with risk factor modification through exercise, diet, stress management, and other lifestyle changes.
  8. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  9. Ability to develop and deliver presentations, and address groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modifications.
  10. Ability to maintain records, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
